Staff Accountant - Sales Tax

About The Role
OPEX Corporation is looking for a full-time Staff Accountant to work at our World Headquarters in Moorestown, NJ. This role will be heavily involved in analysis, accruals, fixed asset accounting and sales tax filings. The ideal candidate will be curious and have a hunger for learning and personal growth as we work towards developing them to be major contributors in the finance department.
Essential Responsibilities
Sales and Use Tax Responsibilities
- Analyze and file Sales and Use Tax for all applicable states monthly within the due dates provided by the states
- Reconcile Vertex Sales Tax system reports to general ledger and Oracle reports to ensure filings are accurate and review any outstanding items
- Maintain electronic files for sales tax returns and customer tax exemptions
- Work with IT team and Vertex team to ensure reports are accurate
- Record payments of Sales Tax timely in the Accounts Payable system and provide necessary documentation for compliance with the approval process
- Research and update taxability matrix as needed for sales tax review
- Assist with creating sales tax estimated based on proposals provided by the sales and service teams using taxability matrix and Vertex software
- Evaluate possible efficiencies with the ERP system and Vertex
Fixed Asset Accounting Responsibilities
- Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including asset additions, disposals, transfers, and retirements
- Record and reconcile monthly depreciation and amortization in accordance with company policy and accounting standards
- Review purchases to ensure proper capitalization of qualifying assets
- Perform periodic reconciliations between the fixed asset register and the general ledger
- Track construction-in-progress projects and coordinate timely placement of assets into service
General Accounting Responsibilities
- Analyze and research various accounts
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and account reconciliations
- Support the Finance team with reporting and analysis
- Perform other accounting duties associated with the Finance department
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- Oracle ERP and/or Vertex experience preferred but not required
- Strong communication skills through e-mail, telephone, and instant messaging
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Must be self-driven creative, and motivated to build new skills and grow with the position
- Curious mindset, willing to ask questions in order to gain confidence to make decisions
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Ability to comprehend fast-paced business issues and practices
- Must have 2+ years in an Accounting Role, preferably with Sales and Use tax filing experience
