JOB SUMMARY
- We’re looking for a hands-on Principal Mobile Software Engineer (P5) who will lead the architecture, development, modernization, and delivery of enterprise-grade mobile platforms across iOS and Android. This role is focused on building reliable, scalable, secure, and high-performing mobile experiences while using AI-driven development practices to accelerate engineering velocity, improve quality, and unlock intelligent mobile capabilities.
- This role is ideal for a senior technologist who:
- Leads complete, high-impact mobile initiatives end-to-end across discovery, architecture, implementation, launch, and continuous improvement
- Designs and builds cross-platform mobile solutions spanning iOS, Android, and shared mobile platform capabilities
- Applies AI-driven development practices, AI-assisted engineering tools, and intelligent mobile workflows to improve delivery speed and product quality
- Makes pragmatic architectural decisions that balance native platform excellence, cross-platform reuse, performance, security, maintainability, and time-to-market
- Partners effectively with product, design, architecture, backend, security, QA, DevOps/SRE, and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous goals into mobile outcomes
- Mentors mobile engineers and raises the technical standard through platform ownership, code review, architecture guidance, and hands-on implementation
- You will operate with broad autonomy, lead complete mobile initiatives without requiring constant direction, influence mobile platform direction across teams, and be known as someone who ships, unblocks others, aligns stakeholders, and makes things happen.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Build, Ship, and Own Mobile Platforms
- Write production-quality mobile code regularly across iOS, Android, shared platform libraries, and mobile integration layers
- Own and deliver high-impact mobile features, platform capabilities, and system improvements end-to-end
- Lead modernization of legacy mobile applications, incrementally migrating toward modular, maintainable, testable, and scalable mobile architectures
- Design and evolve mobile platform foundations, including app architecture, shared components, design systems, SDKs, offline capabilities, authentication flows, telemetry, and release infrastructure
- Translate ambiguous business and user requirements into reliable, intuitive, and performant mobile experiences
- Identify mobile technical risks early, including app performance, crash rates, app store constraints, OS fragmentation, security, privacy, offline behavior, and API reliability
- Run complete project workstreams independently, including technical discovery, solution design, delivery planning, execution tracking, launch readiness, app store release coordination, and post-launch follow-through
AI-Driven Mobile Development & Intelligent Experiences
- Lead the adoption of AI-driven development practices for mobile engineering, including AI-assisted design, coding, refactoring, test generation, debugging, documentation, and code review workflows
- Design and implement intelligent mobile experiences that responsibly leverage LLMs, AI services, on-device intelligence, contextual assistance, automation, and personalization where appropriate
- Integrate mobile applications with AI-enabled backend services, APIs, orchestration layers, and data sources
- Evaluate when intelligence should run on-device, at the edge, or in cloud services based on latency, privacy, cost, reliability, and user experience
- Establish guardrails for AI-assisted mobile engineering, including prompt patterns, generated-code review standards, test expectations, security review, privacy controls, and quality gates
- Implement hallucination mitigation and validation strategies for AI-powered mobile features, including grounding, structured outputs, user confirmation, fallback states, and telemetry-driven evaluation
- Design monitoring and feedback loops for AI-enabled mobile behavior in production
- Ensure AI-enabled mobile capabilities meet security, privacy, compliance, accessibility, and user trust requirements
Mobile Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Set and evolve mobile architecture standards through hands-on implementation
- Guide platform decisions across native iOS, native Android, cross-platform frameworks, shared libraries, backend integration, data synchronization, security, and observability
- Make principled tradeoffs between native platform depth, cross-platform reuse, delivery speed, scalability, performance, correctness, and long-term maintainability
- Act as a technical escalation point for challenging mobile problems, including performance, memory, battery usage, offline-first behavior, crash stability, OS compatibility, release quality, and integration reliability
- Influence technical direction across multiple teams without becoming a bottleneck
- Provide full technical leadership for projects by coordinating architecture, engineering execution, dependency management, risk mitigation, mobile release planning, and cross-team alignment
- Communicate clearly with product owners, UX/design, engineering leaders, backend teams, security, DevOps/SRE, QA, support, and business stakeholders to keep delivery aligned with business outcomes
AI-Assisted Mobile Engineering & Developer Productivity
- Leverage AI-powered development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, and mobile-specific automation to accelerate high-quality delivery
- Establish best practices and guardrails for safe, high-quality AI-assisted mobile coding
- Use AI tools for mobile solution design, architecture analysis, refactoring, test generation, debugging, system comprehension, documentation, and release readiness
- Improve developer productivity through reusable mobile components, shared architecture patterns, CI/CD automation, test automation, build optimization, and platform tooling
- Help teams adopt modern mobile workflows that improve velocity while maintaining engineering rigor, security, accessibility, and release quality
Mentorship & Team Elevation
- Mentor mobile engineers through pairing, code reviews, architecture reviews, and design discussions
- Help senior mobile engineers grow into broader technical leadership roles
- Coach engineers on modern mobile architecture, cross-platform development, AI-aware engineering practices, quality engineering, observability, and secure development
- Foster a culture of continuous learning, ownership, customer empathy, and technical excellence
- Lead by example with clear communication, humility, accountability, and hands-on technical contribution
Mobile Execution, Quality & Operations
- Build and maintain enterprise mobile applications using modern native and/or cross-platform frameworks
- Design and implement integrations with RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, event-driven workflows, identity providers, analytics platforms, and mobile backend services
- Optimize mobile applications for performance, memory usage, battery life, network efficiency, offline behavior, accessibility, localization, and reliability
- Partner with DevOps/SRE and QA to ensure strong mobile CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, build signing, release automation, observability, crash reporting, and safe deployments
- Own release quality across TestFlight, Google Play testing tracks, App Store, and Google Play production releases
- Participate fully in the SDLC: design, coding, testing, deployment, production support, incident response, and continuous improvement
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- 10+ years of professional software development experience, including significant hands-on mobile engineering experience
- Proven experience owning and delivering large, complex mobile applications or mobile platform capabilities
- Demonstrated success modernizing legacy mobile applications, mobile architectures, and mobile delivery practices
- Hands-on experience building and shipping iOS and Android applications, with strong cross-platform mobile development experience
- Experience applying AI-assisted development tools and AI-driven engineering practices to improve quality, speed, testing, documentation, and maintainability
- History of hands-on technical leadership across teams or mobile domains
- Strong track record of mentoring and developing engineers
- Proven ability to lead a complete project independently, coordinate with cross-functional stakeholders, manage technical risks, and drive execution through delivery
Technical Skills
- Expert-level mobile engineering experience across iOS and Android
- Strong proficiency with Swift and iOS platform development, including Apple platform conventions, app lifecycle, concurrency, networking, persistence, testing, and App Store release practices
- Strong proficiency with Kotlin and Android platform development, including Android architecture, Jetpack, coroutines, networking, persistence, testing, and Google Play release practices
- Hands-on experience with cross-platform mobile technologies such as React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, .NET MAUI, or equivalent frameworks
- Deep understanding of mobile architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture, modular architecture, dependency injection, and design-system integration
- Experience integrating mobile apps with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, identity providers, telemetry platforms, crash reporting, analytics, feature flags, and remote configuration
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and AI-enabled engineering workflows
- Working knowledge of LLM-powered product experiences, AI service integration, prompt-driven workflows, structured outputs, validation, and responsible AI guardrails
- Strong understanding of mobile security, secure storage, authentication, authorization, privacy, encryption, certificate pinning, OWASP Mobile risks, and compliance-aware engineering
- Strong experience with mobile testing strategies, including unit testing, UI automation, integration testing, contract testing, snapshot testing, and regression automation
- Experience with mobile CI/CD, build automation, signing, provisioning, release tracks, app store submission, observability, and production monitoring
- Comfort working with cloud environments and backend integration patterns across AWS and/or Azure
- Proficient with Git and modern development workflows
- Strong understanding of production-quality code, performance tuning, reliability engineering, accessibility, and user-centered mobile design
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, .NET MAUI, or other cross-platform mobile frameworks at scale
- Experience building shared mobile platform libraries, SDKs, design systems, or reusable component frameworks
- Experience with offline-first mobile applications, synchronization, conflict resolution, and intermittent connectivity scenarios
- Experience with mobile observability, crash analytics, performance monitoring, synthetic monitoring, and SLO-driven reliability practices
- Experience integrating AI-powered features into mobile applications, including on-device AI, cloud AI services, personalization, automation, or contextual assistants
- Experience with regulated, security-sensitive, or compliance-driven mobile applications
- Background with event streaming, messaging, or real-time data workflows
- Strong background in Agile/Scrum environments
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience
