Staff Accountant
Department: Finance & Accounting
Position: Staff Accountant / Accounts Payable
Pay Rate: $27.00–$29.00 per hour
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Director of Finance
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant / Accounts Payable Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the resort, with a primary focus on accounts payable, invoice processing, reconciliations, general ledger activities, and financial reporting support.
This position ensures financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely while maintaining strong internal controls and compliance with company policies and procedures.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced hotel environment while managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Accounts Payable
- Process, code, and enter vendor invoices accurately and efficiently.
- Verify invoices against purchase orders, receiving records, and required approvals.
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies with vendors and department leaders.
- Maintain accurate vendor records and supporting documentation.
- Prepare and process weekly vendor payments and check runs.
- Monitor accounts payable aging and follow up on outstanding items.
- Respond to vendor inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure invoices are properly approved and processed in accordance with company policies.
- Assist with 1099 preparation and other year-end vendor reporting.
Staff Accounting
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Prepare and post journal entries as assigned.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, and other accounting adjustments.
- Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial records.
- Assist with additional accounting projects and financial analysis as assigned.
Hotel & Resort Accounting Support
- Work closely with Front Office, Food & Beverage, Purchasing, Engineering, and other departments to ensure proper financial controls.
- Review departmental purchases and expenses for appropriate coding and approvals.
- Assist with inventory accounting and periodic physical inventories as needed.
- Support internal and external audits by providing requested documentation.
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information and business records.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of accounting, accounts payable, or related financial experience preferred.
- Previous hotel or hospitality accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, general ledger, and account reconciliation processes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with hotel accounting systems or financial software preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry files, boxes, or other office materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to perform repetitive computer and administrative tasks.
- Ability to work effectively in an office environment with frequent interaction with other departments.
Work Environment
This position works primarily in an office environment within a full-service resort. The role requires regular interaction with hotel leadership, department managers, employees, vendors, and other members of the Finance team.
The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced hospitality environment where priorities and deadlines may change and where accuracy, professionalism, and teamwork are essential.
Compensation & Benefits
$27.00–$29.00 per hour , based on experience and qualifications, plus eligibility for applicable company benefits and programs.

What are we looking for?
- Someone with a College degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Someone with extensive knowledge of a hotel Front Office system preferred.
- Someone with an understanding of POS systems and how they maintain & process information desired.
- Someone with advanced computer skills, with a focus on accounting
- Someone with knowledge of Excel, including but not limited to formulas, VLook-Ups, Pivot Tables and If/Then
