About The Role

Baystate Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join the Respiratory Care Services team at Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Baystate Franklin Medical Center is a 90-bed community hospital providing medical, surgical, obstetric, psychiatric, and emergency services to patients throughout Franklin County and surrounding communities.

Our Respiratory Care Services team provides comprehensive respiratory and cardiopulmonary care across adult, pediatric, and neonatal populations. Respiratory Therapists work closely with physicians, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary care team to deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based care in acute, critical, and post-acute settings.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact through patient assessment, diagnostic testing, therapeutic intervention, emergency response, and respiratory equipment management while working as both an independent clinician and an integral member of a collaborative care team.

The Respiratory Therapist Will

  • Assess patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions, interpret diagnostic data, and adjust respiratory therapies based on clinical response and laboratory results.
  • Provide a broad range of respiratory therapies, including medical gas, humidity, aerosol, oxygen, airway clearance, and artificial airway management.
  • Initiate and manage invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and support other advanced therapies, including vascular access procedures and Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS), as appropriate.
  • Perform and interpret pulmonary function testing, blood gas analysis, sleep studies, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Respond to Rapid Response and Code Blue calls and assist with emergency interventions and patient transport, including land and air transport when needed.
  • Participate in patient rounds, disease and case management, discharge planning, and patient education while collaborating with providers and the broader care team.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment in accordance with safety, infection control, and departmental standards, documenting malfunctions and coordinating repairs as needed.
  • Support the development of colleagues and learners by precepting new staff, Respiratory Therapy students, and nursing residents and participating in clinical education and departmental training initiatives.

Shift: Rotating

Hours: Per Diem; hours based on department and patient-care needs

Schedule: Per Diem

Weekend Requirement: Two weekend shifts per 6 week scheduling rotation

Required Skills

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist (LRT) in Massachusetts.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Maintain current AHA certifications applicable to the role.
  • Meet and maintain the clinical ladder criteria for a Level II Respiratory Therapist, as applicable.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Prior experience in an acute care or critical care setting.
  • Advanced certifications such as ACLS, PALS, and NRP, as applicable to the facility and role.
  • Familiarity with EPIC or other electronic medical record systems.
  • Experience working with adult, pediatric, and/or neonatal patient populations.
  • Experience with mechanical ventilation, advanced respiratory therapies, and emergency response.

Compensation

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

$39.93 - $45.90 - $54.29
