Your team
Small Business Banking (SBB) is part of CommBank’s Business Banking division and is passionate about helping Australian small businesses start, run and grow. We support customers through trusted banker relationships, digital capability, data-led insight and specialist solutions to deliver strong customer, community and commercial outcomes.
The Strategic Partnerships & Innovation team shapes the forward agenda for Small Business Banking, including the SBB 2030 strategy, strategic research, ecosystem engagement and technology-enabled innovation. The team works across Business Banking, Technology, Product, Channels, x15, Risk, Legal, Procurement and Finance, as well as with external partners, to identify, structure and scale opportunities for customers and the bank.
Do Work That Matters
You will support the General Manager, Strategic Partnerships & Innovation and the Small Business Banking Leadership Team to define, sharpen and mobilise the SBB 2030 strategy. You will lead priority workstreams that translate customer needs, market shifts, competitor moves and emerging technology into clear strategic choices, partnership opportunities and executable plans.
You will act as a senior strategy and partnership lead across Small Business Banking, taking concepts from research and hypotheses through partner assessment, business case development, commercial negotiation, integration planning and delivery mobilisation. You will bring consulting-grade problem-solving and banking discipline to high-ambiguity opportunities, ensuring innovation is connected to customer outcomes, commercial value, risk appetite and operational feasibility
You will
- Support the development and ongoing evolution of the SBB 2030 strategy.
- Lead strategic research across customer needs, industry trends, competitor activity, fintechs and emerging technologies.
- Manage consulting and advisory engagements, translating insights into practical outcomes.
- Identify and shape strategic partnership opportunities that strengthen customer propositions and business outcomes.
- Develop business cases for partnership and innovation initiatives.
- Lead partnership assessment, due diligence, commercial structuring and implementation planning.
- Partner across Product, Technology, Risk, Legal, Procurement and Finance to deliver outcomes.
- Shape opportunities involving AI, data, digital platforms, payments and automation.
- Prepare executive-ready recommendations, decision papers and strategic communications.
- Lead and develop high-performing teams and cross-functional working groups.
We’re interested in hearing from people who bring
- Experience in strategy, management consulting, strategic partnerships, business development, product strategy, technology strategy or corporate development.
- Proven experience leading complex strategic initiatives, transformation programmes or partnership workstreams with senior stakeholders.
- Strong structured problem-solving, strategic research and business case development capability.
- Understanding of financial services, fintech ecosystems, digital banking or technology-enabled business models.
- Experience identifying, assessing, negotiating or managing strategic partnerships and commercial arrangements.
- Ability to translate emerging technology trends into customer value, business strategy and executable plans.
- Strong commercial acumen, including financial modelling, investment cases and benefits realisation.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills across business, technology, risk and control functions.
- Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to develop executive-ready recommendations and strategic narratives.
- Comfortable operating in ambiguity and balancing customer outcomes, commercial value, risk appetite and delivery feasibility.
