About The Role

Job Summary

The Integrated Movement Disorders Program (IMDP) is an internationally renowned clinical research program specializing in the holistic outpatient rehabilitation of functional movement disorder (FMD), Parkinson disease, and other movement disorders.

The IMDP was founded in 2019 as a collaboration between the Toronto Western Hospital Movement Disorders Clinic and the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. We are an interdisciplinary team including neurology, psychiatry, physiatry, physiotherapy, psychotherapy, social work, and research.

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join our team. This role is ideally suited for someone with a strong interest in neurological rehabilitation, movement disorders, and interdisciplinary care which encompasses a brain-body-mind approach.

As our clinic provides integrated therapy, , creativity, flexibility, empathy, and a willingness to learn and adapt are essential. We are looking for an individual who is collaborative, patient-centered, and eager to grow their clinical and professional skills within a supportive academic environment.

Duties

  • Responsible for assessing and delivering physiotherapy treatment for complex movement disorder presentations (predominantly FMD and Parkinson disease)
  • Provide physical interventions aimed at enhancing function across disease boundaries (disease-informed but not disease-specific)
  • Implement  the latest evidence based strategies and recommendations on physiotherapy for FMD,  with guidance from experienced clinicians
  • Collaborate closely with  other members of the diverse team
  • Deliver patient education and contribute to material development
  • Work with the wider research team to set up research studies in accordance to policies and procedures

Required

  • MSc Physiotherapy
  • Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Clinical experience in neurological rehabilitation (student placement/internship experience will be considered)
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary  environment
  • Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and commitment to lifelong learning
  • Interest in patient education and health promotion
  • Openness to incorporating approaches such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral strategies, and mindfulness techniques into physiotherapy practice

Preferred

  • Member of relevant professional interest group (e.g. the Functional Neurological Disorder Society)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through specialist courses or continuing education
  • Experience delivering group-based rehabilitation
  • Experience providing virtual care 
  • Experience of participating in research, quality improvement, or clinical audit projects
