TALENT POOL - Expression of Interest Position Title: Legal Officer Grade: Legal Officer I-I I Salary Range: $81,702- $122,869 plus superannuation Division: Legal Services Location: Sydney CBD , Close to Central Station Position Type: Temporary Opportunities (Talent Pool) Start Date: As vacancies arise – to be negotiated End Date: Temporary – Up to 12 Months Closing Date: Applications will be assessed on a rolling basis. The Opportunity The Health Care Complaints Commission (the Commission) is establishing a talent pool for Legal Officer Grade I -II positions to support temporary resourcing needs within the Legal Services Division. This is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful and complex legal work that supports the Commission’s role in protecting public health and safety in NSW. We are seeking expressions of interest from motivated legal professionals interested in temporary opportunities within a dynamic and purpose-driven environment. The Role Legal Officers are responsible for ensuring the timely and effective administrative case management of legal prosecutions and conduct of prosecution matters and other legal matters that the Commission is involved in. Key responsibilities include: Provide support to the Director of Proceedings in the analysis of briefs of evidence in less complex matters within a set timeframe and make sound and pragmatic recommendations as to sufficiency of evidence and appropriateness of prosecution action. Provide advice and recommendations as requested by the Director of Proceedings or Manager, Legal Services. Draft reports, complaints, applications, correspondence, memoranda, and other legal documents in less complex matters. Prepare chronologies and draft other legal documents as required by the legal team. Provide support to more senior Legal Officers by completing legal research and manage witnesses as needed. The selection process may include a work-based assessment task and a suitability-based interview. Talent Pool This recruitment will be used to create a talent pool for temporary opportunities (up to 12 months) of the same classification that may become available over the next 18 months. Applications will be assessed progressively, with candidates moving through: - A short work-based task; and - A suitability interview Candidates will be assessed once for the HCCC talent pool and may be considered for opportunities as they become available. About You To succeed you will have: Strong analytical skills, including the ability to summarise legal and factual material and make succinct recommendations. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with self-represented litigants, expert witnesses and investigators. Previous experience in regulatory prosecutions, criminal law, administrative law, litigation or similar is desirable . Willingness to undertake basic advocacy work on behalf of the Commission and instruct counsel Essential requirements To be eligible to apply for this position, applicants must have existing Australian work rights. A current practicing certificate allowing practice as a solicitor in NSW or another jurisdiction (and eligible for conversion) is also required .
