Summary of Job Duties

The Lab Support Technician II will be expected to perform clerical duties including, but not limited to, triaging phone calls, triaging specimens, assigning identification numbers to specimens along with patient name and specimen type, reviewing, verifying, and logging all incoming consultation cases from outside facilities into the UAMS system, and verifying patient status, insurance coverage and proper authorizations prior to services. The LST II is responsible for collecting patient information and data within regulations as well as guaranteeing patient identification throughout every process. The LST II is located at the UAMS Health Benton/Bryant location and works to support other staff members and the department as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Lab Tech or Assistant in a Clinical Laboratory or 60 hours of completed higher education in a health sciences program.

Responsibilities

  • Accessioning specimen outreach and Surgical Pathology.
  • Verifying correct insurance for each patient.
  • Clerical work for Gross Department. Triage all calls made to gross lab.
  • Customer service: Assist clinics looking for results. Correcting incorrect patient information.
  • Fulfilling any requests outside clinics may need, i.e. supplies, requisitions, etc.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Light Work | Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of force is greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
  • The Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; and/or visual inspection at distances close to the eyes.
  • The Employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, general laborer, lab personnel, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard).
  • The Employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
  • The Employee is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts or vehicles, electrical current, working in high places, exposure to chemicals, biological, radiological or hazardous materials.
