About the role

As part of Applied Sciences & Technology, Future Innovation is responsible for developing and enabling the capabilities, facilities, partnerships, and operating models required to accelerate the delivery of technology solutions that support bp's transition to net zero.

The Innovation Lead will play a pivotal role in establishing the Bengaluru Technology Centre and supporting pivotal initiatives across the Future Innovation portfolio. The role combines programme leadership, partner engagement, operational readiness, and business integration to ensure successful delivery of new capabilities, facilities, and ways of working.

The successful candidate will work across technology, digital, facilities, procurement, safety, and external partners to deliver sophisticated, multi-disciplinary programmes while helping build a collaborative and high-performing innovation culture.

Key Accountabilities

Programme Delivery

  • Lead delivery of strategic Future Innovation programmes and workstreams supporting the Bengaluru Technology Centre.
  • Develop and maintain integrated delivery plans, achievements, budgets, risks, dependencies, and governance processes.
  • Coordinate activities across multiple functions, suppliers, and contractors to ensure delivery objectives are achieved.
  • Drive resolution of project issues and call out risks appropriately.

Technology Centre Readiness

  • Support planning, commissioning, and operational readiness activities for new technology centre facilities.
  • Coordinate implementation of laboratory, workplace, digital, and operational capabilities.
  • Ensure alignment between facility design, technology requirements, business processes, and future growth needs.
  • Support development of operating models, governance, and business processes required for sustainable operations.

Partner Management

  • Build strong relationships across Technology, Digital, Projects, Procurement, Safety, and other business functions.
  • Act as a key interface between global teams and India-based collaborators.
  • Prepare executive communications, programme updates, leadership presentations, and governance materials.
  • Facilitate workshops and cross-functional alignment sessions to support decision making.

Innovation Enablement

  • Support identification and development of opportunities to improve innovation effectiveness, teamwork, and delivery.
  • Facilitate engagement with external partners, suppliers, universities, and innovation ecosystems.
  • Drive implementation of new ways of working, digital tools, and business processes that improve innovation productivity.

Safety and Operational Completion

  • Champion bp's safety culture and operational perfection expectations.
  • Ensure all activities are delivered in compliance with applicable safety, risk, and governance requirements.
  • Promote continuous improvement and lessons learned across programmes and projects.

Crucial Experience

  • Degree or equivalent experience in science, engineering, technology, or related rigor.
  • Significant experience leading sophisticated projects or programmes in research, technology, engineering, innovation, or operational environments.
  • Strong customer leadership skills with experience working across global and cross-functional teams.
  • Validated project management and delivery experience.
  • Experience preparing executive-level communications and governance materials.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting laboratory, R&D, engineering, or technology centre environments.
  • Experience working with facility design, commissioning, or operational readiness programmes.
  • Familiarity with digital, automation, data, or laboratory technology systems.
  • Experience leading external partners and suppliers.
  • Experience working in international and culturally diverse environments.

Future Location Notice: This role will start in Sunbury, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in Sunbury, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028.
