Director of Hospice Clinical Services - RN Essential Responsibilities

  • Manages the overall hospice clinical operations including but not limited to: maintaining policies, assessing competencies, ensuring regulatory compliance, monitoring quality, and establishing improvement plans based on current best practices.
  • Improves the quality of patient care through staff education and development, physician, patient/family satisfaction promotion, performance improvement activities, staffing facilitation and scheduling.
  • Aids in the agency’s goal of retaining quality staff by appropriately hiring, orienting, training, evaluating and disciplining staff within established policy.
  • Ensures orientation, training and competency are based upon evidence based, best practice and industry standards, are developed, provided and documented for nursing and HHA staff.
  • Ensures staff ability to perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Assists in administrative staff availability 24 hours per day by participating in after hour call coverage.
  • Collaborates with medical and professional staff to plan/coordinate joint patient and management objectives.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of current Medicare, Medicaid and third-party payer requirements for hospice and home care reimbursement.
  • Possesses understanding of applicable state and federal regulations as applicable to hospice and HomeCare and communicates updates to staff.
  • Possesses understanding of the HOPE and OASIS data collection and reporting process.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards.
  • Ensures agency compliance with organizational, program specific policies/procedures, safety and health standards, and state/federal regulations.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • 3+ years of leadership experience

Required License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas or compact state.
  • Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
  • Kansas State Driver’s License
  • Auto Insurance equal to or greater than the Kansas insurance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience

  • BSN
  • Certified as Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse.
  • Managerial experience in hospice or home health.
  • Previous hospice and/or home health experience.
  • OASIS Certification

Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations

  • N/A

Physical Requirements

  • Light Work: Occasionally exerting up to 25 lbs - frequently exerting up to 10 lbs. 11-25% of the day may be standing or walking.
