About The Role
This position is essential to the successful recruitment and retention of students to the university. Serves as initial contact point with students and others communicating with the University Financial Aid Office to properly provide information on aid procedures and status, and effectively direct inquiries to appropriate contact. Provides accurate and thorough information to students and their families about financial aid programs at Tulane, procedures and forms required, eligibility requirements, dollar limits, etc., so they have a sound base on which to make decisions for financing their education. For each customer, decides about the best method to handle the inquiry, problem or situation. Also has additional responsibilities which include serving as a primary document imaging specialist, providing technology support, and participating as an active member of the office’s training team for new employees. Additional responsibilities will include assisting with various data compilations and assisting the Associate Director with other tasks as assigned.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills and excellent attention to detail are necessary.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to impart those skills to members of the staff.
- Ability to be flexible to handle a variety of duties and projects throughout the year, as the demands of a Financial Aid Office are cyclical in nature.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, including students, parents, faculty, academic deans and administrators, guidance counselors, alumni, government representatives, banks, loan servicing agencies, and loan guarantee agencies.
Minimum Qualification
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualification
- One (1) year of experience or educational training in student affairs, counseling, accounting, or related fields.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Experience with publications and training materials preferred.
