About The Role

HSE & Safety Leadership

  • Champion a strong safety culture across Client, Contractors, and Subcontractors; lead by example on welding HSE.
  • Oversee implementation and continuous improvement of HSE policies related to welding and fabrication.
  • Audit site practices, set performance targets, and intervene to maintain a safe working environment.

Quality Oversight & Performance Monitoring

  • Review, analyse, and report on overall welding performance of Contractors and Subcontractors.
  • Identify systemic risks or deviations; initiate root cause analyses and direct corrective action plans.
  • Manage non-conformities, monitor defect trends, and provide strategic recommendations for continuous improvement.

Codes, Standards & Compliance

  • Lead verification of compliance with applicable welding codes (ASME, AWS) and project specifications.
  • Provide technical direction on complex compliance matters; support development of welding procedures.

• Control implementation of qualified Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) across all fabrication and erection activities.

Documentation & Inspection Control

  • Oversee review and approval of contractors' welding quality plans, ITPs, WPS, PQR, and WQR documentation.
  • Supervise and witness welder qualification tests; authorize qualified welders in line with contract and code requirements.
  • Direct all NDT activities related to welding; review and approve results; ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
  • Ensure full traceability of welding consumables, materials, and weld joints in compliance with project and code requirements.

Reporting, Communication & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and participate in daily, weekly, and monthly QA/QC meetings; track action items to closure.
  • Maintain effective relationships with Contractors, Subcontractors, and third-party inspectors..
  • Advise Project Managers, Discipline Superintendents, and other stakeholders on QA/QC and welding inspection matters.

Technical Coordination

  • Guide cross-discipline collaboration (NDT, piping, mechanical, construction) to optimise QA/QC strategies.
  • Lead resolution of welding-related technical queries and Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs); drive timely closure.
  • Facilitate escalation and resolution of welding risks with potential impact on quality, schedule, or cost.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering) or equivalent.
  • Advanced post-qualification specialisation in QA/QC, Inspection, or Welding/Metallurgical discipline is required.
  • Additional formal training in quality management systems is highly desirable, preferably within Oil & Gas.

Experience

  • Minimum 15 years' experience in welding QA/QC or related disciplines.
  • At least 8 years in supervisory or lead roles within the oil and gas industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise managing complex welding operations and QA/QC teams on major oil & gas or LNG projects.

Technical Competencies

  • In-depth knowledge of welding standards and codes: ASME, AWS, and equivalent.
  • Proven ability to manage WPS/PQR/WQR documentation and welder qualification processes. 
  • Strong understanding of NDT methods and their application in LNG/O&G construction environments.
  • Solid grasp of project safety, quality assurance strategy, scheduling, and reputational risk considerations.

Soft Skills & Communication

  • Excellent written and verbal command of English; proficiency or working knowledge of Portuguese or French is an asset.

 

Certifications

  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI – AWS) or equivalent senior-level welding inspection qualification is required.

Working Schedule : Rotations 4x4
