About The Role

APM Terminals

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving — observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

The Port of Barcelona’s Muelle Sur Container Terminal is 100% owned by APM Terminals and is undergoing significant infrastructure and equipment upgrades to support future growth and larger vessel operations. As part of a multi-year project involving civil and electrical engineering works, we are looking for a Project HSSE Supervisor to help ensure the safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible execution of construction activities within a complex operating terminal environment.

In this role, you will provide strong field-based HSSE support across multiple construction interfaces, helping contractors and project teams maintain the highest standards of Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental performance.

What We Can Offer

At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement means every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers by continuously refining how we work. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work.

Additionally, you will benefit from

  • Opportunities to build experience in project and construction management.
  • Exposure to large-scale infrastructure and terminal development projects.
  • In-depth learning within the container terminal and logistics industry.
  • Potential future career opportunities in larger, more complex project HSSE roles and broader regional or global HSSE positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a visible field presence across the project site, conducting daily inspections and verifying compliance with HSSE requirements.
  • Monitor high-risk construction activities including excavations, drilling, dredging, diving operations, lifting activities, equipment assembly, maintenance, and demobilization activities.
  • Review and verify technical safety documentation including Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Job Safety Analyses, and Permit to Work requirements.
  • Support implementation of HSSE controls and technical standards throughout all phases of construction activities.
  • Identify HSSE improvement opportunities, propose corrective actions, and follow up on implementation to strengthen project performance.
  • Support emergency preparedness activities, drills, and verification of emergency response equipment and resources.
  • Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, reporting activities, and environmental compliance monitoring across the project.

What We Are Looking For

  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Legal accreditation to practice as a Técnico Superior de Prevención de Riesgos Laborales (PRL), supported by the required qualifications under Spanish legislation.
  • Mandatory accreditation in the Safety at Work (Seguridad en el Trabajo) specialty.
  • 3–5 years of experience in field safety supervision, ideally within construction, civil engineering, port infrastructure, or similar project environments.
  • Strong knowledge of the Spanish Occupational Risk Prevention framework, including Ley 31/1995, RD 1627/1997, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Experience overseeing implementation of Plan de Seguridad y Salud (PSS) and Coordinación de Actividades Empresariales (CAE) processes.
  • Ability to identify emerging risks, influence contractors, challenge unsafe practices constructively, and provide practical field-based guidance.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively across project teams, contractors, supervision teams, and terminal operations.
  • Native or bilingual Spanish and intermediate English proficiency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint.
