Job Summary

Acrisure is seeking a US Indirect Tax Manager to join our growing team in Chicago. The role will be pivotal in the corporate tax function, primarily engaging in the Company’s domestic indirect tax compliance and process development. You will also be working with the Vice President – Tax to develop tax strategy, create governance, and execute process improvements in the indirect tax function.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute US indirect tax strategies to minimize sales and use tax exposure while maximizing refund and overpayment recovery opportunities.
  • Lead multistate sales and use tax refund studies, identify tax recovery opportunities, and manage refund claim filings through resolution.
  • Manage all indirect state tax compliance, including preparing and reviewing supporting tax calculations and gathering relevant data for sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts and excise tax
  • Advise business leaders on the indirect tax impacts of new products, services acquisitions and operational initiatives.
  • Lead the indirect tax workstream for ERP implementations, upgrades, system integrations and business transformation initiatives.
  • Drive automation initiatives that improve tax compliance, reduce manual processes, and enhance tax data quality across source systems.
  • Maintain and improve tax calendar and ensure timely completion of US state indirect tax filings
  • Develop and implement indirect tax best practice processes and meet internal control requirements, including exemption certificate process and applicable registrations
  • Provide advice, direction and support to resolve indirect tax and property tax issues
  • Responsible for monitoring legislative and regulatory tax law developments and analyze/interpret changes to tax laws and its impact to the applicable tax returns and Company
  • Create payment procedures and account reconciliations for various US indirect taxes and accounts
  • Identify, develop, and implement US indirect state tax planning opportunities
  • Proactively identify and implement process improvements that promote efficiency and accuracy
  • Support research and resolution of various state indirect tax audits and notices
  • Communicate and develop relationship with business and finance personnel as well as outside consultants and financial statement auditors
  • Lead and mentor tax team member(s), including providing guidance and support to ensure ongoing development

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 6+ years of progressive U.S. tax compliance experience, ideally from a mix of Big 4/public accounting and in-house corporate tax roles.
  • Strong technical knowledge of U.S. sales and use tax, property tax, and gross receipt tax.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes.
  • Experience with Avalara software preferred
  • People leadership experience preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • MBA, MST or JD preferred

Pay Details

The base compensation range for this position is $140,000 - $190,000. This range reflects Acrisure's good faith estimate at the time of this posting. Placement within the range will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity.

Candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.
