Swiss Machinist

Job Summary

A Swiss Machine Operator primarily operates and sets up Swiss-style CNC lathes to produce precision parts. They read technical drawings, select appropriate tools, perform routine maintenance, and conduct quality checks to ensure parts meet specifications. They often collaborate with engineering and quality teams to refine processes and improve product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and Set Up Machines: Operate and set up Swiss-style CNC lathes and machines to produce precision parts for various industries, including medical devices, aerospace, and automotive.
  • Technical Drawings: Read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to ensure accurate machining processes.
  • Tool Selection: Select appropriate tools, inserts, and machine parameters to optimize machining efficiency and part quality.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on Swiss machines to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering and quality assurance teams to refine machining processes and improve product quality.
  • Quality Checks: Conduct in-process inspections and quality checks to ensure parts meet specified tolerances and standards.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment 1 .

Required Skills and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical certification or associate degree in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Swiss Machinist in a precision fabrication environment.
  • Proficient in operating and setting up Swiss-style CNC lathes and machines.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and fixture design.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with programming CNC machines using CAM software.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills 1 .
