Composite Technician

About The Role

  • Composites Technicians are an integral part of meeting client expectations as they work from
  • start to finish in the manufacturing process of client products and related projects. Composites
  • Technicians will be responsible for composite layup and layup technique for bonding, trimming
  • and curing composites materials. With supervision, Composites Technicians will be responsible
  • for the finishing and final product delivered to customers.

Duties & Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned)

  • -Ensure high quality manufacturing of composites products as per process instructions
  • -Form, lay-up, fabricate, assemble and repair parts or assemblies of composites materials
  • -Apply various materials onto moulds (mandrels, tools or other forms), using fingers,
  • hands and tools to manipulate materials to conform to shape of mould
  • -Apply wraps, bags or other products to prepare for the curing process
  • -Sand, fill, fair and finish parts as instructed to prepare for paint or complete parts
  • -Read work instruction, travelers or drawings and other documents to determine
  • materials and processes necessary to manufacture each product
  • -Perform in-process checks (inspect own work for compliance to instructions and quality
  • of work) and ensure all checks are recorded on Travelers
  • -Work closely with team to produce quality products and meet targeted timelines
  • -Ensure quality and safety standards are met in our day to day working environment and
  • contribute to the supervision of all employees in this regard
  • -Assist with other shop projects, duties and responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

  • English language skills (read, write)
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects.
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Solid communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Composite experience
  • Strong documentation, organization and communication skills
  • Upon approval, continuing education will be supported by PCI as needed
  • Working conditions
  • PCI promotes a safe and clean working environment that meets or exceeds standards
  • prescribed by the Ministry of Labour (Ontario). Work will be conducted indoors in our
  • manufacturing shop. Personal protective equipment will be necessary when operating on the
  • shop floor including safety shoes (CSA Green Triangle) and safety glasses. Respiratory
  • protection, hearing protection, appropriate gloves and work suits will be mandatory as
  • required.

Other conditions include

  • Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts, on occasion, based on
  • demanding manufacturing schedules
  • Ability to be on feet for up to 9 hours each day

Physical requirements

Composites Technicians must have the following abilities

  • Lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Work with power tools and heavy shop equipment
  • Use hands throughout composites manufacturing process
