Job Description
The Lead Software Engineer provides technical leadership for the design, development, implementation, and support of enterprise software applications and technology solutions. This role is accountable for solution architecture, engineering quality, delivery execution, and mentoring engineering teams. The Lead Software Engineer partners with business, architecture, security, and product teams to deliver scalable, secure, and maintainable technology solutions aligned with enterprise objectives
Essential Functions
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and services.
- Create scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
- Develop APIs, integrations, databases, and user-facing applications.
- Write clean, maintainable, and reusable code following coding standards and best practices as well as develop these standards.
- Write technical specifications for applications, systems and solutions

- Participate in solution design, technical reviews, and architecture discussions
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and project teams.
- Lead technical design sessions and code reviews.
- Recommend technologies, frameworks, and development approaches.
- Support the establishment and enforcement of engineering standards and best practices.
- Serve as technical lead for complex initiatives and strategic technology implementations.
- Drive architecture decisions and ensure alignment with enterprise technology standards.
- Establish and promote engineering best practices, coding standards, and design patterns.
- Provide technical direction across multiple projects and development teams.
- Lead resolution of complex technical challenges and production incidents
- Influence technology roadmaps and modernization efforts.
- Coordinate engineering activities across teams to ensure successful delivery of large-scale initiatives.
- Identify technical dependencies, risks, and mitigation strategies.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet quality, security, and operational requirements
- Define solution architectures that support scalability, resiliency, security, and maintainability
- Ensure solutions support cloud, API, data, and integration strategies
- Ensure appropriate testing strategies, automation, and quality engineering practices are implemented across solutions.
- Troubleshoot application issues and perform root cause analysis
- Ensure service levels and operational support expectations are met
- Follow secure coding practices and enterprise security requirements
- Support audit, risk, and compliance activities as needed
- Maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
- Promote DevSecOps and Site Reliability Engineering practices where applicable.
Additional Essential Functions
- Ensure compliance with Northwest’s policies and procedures, and Federal/State regulations
- Navigate Microsoft Office Software, computer applications, and software specific to the department in order to maximize technology tools and gain efficiency
- Work as part of a team
- Work with on-site equipment

Education
Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Technology (Software Development track) or Engineering with a concentration in programming AND 10 years relevant work experience Or
Master's Degree Computer Science, Information Technology (Software Development track) or Engineering with a concentration in programming AND 8 years equivalent work experience Or
Work Experience
12 - 15 years Application support & maintenance, production support, application development, database administration, system administration, system engineering or equivalent experience using Microsoft technology stack (e.g., Windows, .NET, SQL Server) or equivalent technologies and toolset e.g., Java, JSON, Python, Oracle, MySQL, Linux, etc.

- Ability to lead functional and cross-functional teams to deliver complex web applications and systems
- Ability to drive testing strategies, automation, and quality engineering practices
- Knowledge of developing data warehouses and data marts
- Knowledge of JavaScript libraries and frameworks, e.g. Angular, React, JQuery, etc.
- Knowledge of working in agile environments. Exposure to Scrum framework
- Skill in incorporating best practices on information security into development efforts
- Ability to work within a team environment and possessing communication skills necessary to function with a team
- Prior experience providing production support
- Hands-on programming experience using C#, Java, or similar contemporary programming languages
- Experienced in developing web applications and sites using HTML, JavaScript and CSS or equivalent combinations
- Experience in relational data model
- Experience in CI/CD integrations for both on-prem and cloud deployments
- Experience working with JavaScript, and JavaScript libraries & frameworks e.g. Angular, React, JQuery, etc.
- Experience working with source code repositories like Microsoft Team Foundation Services (TFS), GitHub, SVN or other equivalent tools
- Experience in creating dashboards and reports using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Power BI
- Experience supporting or developing solutions on Microsoft SharePoint or equivalent solution/platform
- Experience supporting or developing solutions on FiServ Nautilus ECM or equivalent system/platform
- Knowledge of system/process documentation
- Skilled with server side architectures and system design and development
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services or any other cloud ecosystem
- Experience designing information security into applications Working
- Experience working in an SDLC environment
- Ability to quickly learn new applications, processes, and procedures
- Expert knowledge on Architecture of Online Banking and SDK platform
