ROLE SUMMARY

The Maintenance Assistant provides numerous services indoors and outdoors in a variety of areas, including general maintenance and cleaning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and renovations.

Job Summary**

The Maintenance Assistant at Netcare Hospitals (Pty) Limited plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and well-maintained operation of our hospital facilities. This position supports the maintenance team in delivering high-quality patient care environments by performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks and assisting skilled technicians.

Job Responsibilities**

Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks, including checking and cleaning equipment, replacing filters, and lubricating moving parts.
Assist skilled technicians (e.g., electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians) with repairs and installations, including carrying tools, fetching parts, and providing support as directed.
Conduct minor repairs such as patching walls, changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and unblocking drains.
Inspect facilities regularly to identify and report any maintenance needs or safety hazards.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and time spent.
Adhere to all safety regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.
Assist with the setup and dismantling of equipment or furniture as required.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and maintenance workshops.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and contractors.

Job Qualifications**

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities support role, preferably within a healthcare environment, is advantageous.
Basic knowledge of general maintenance practices, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
Good physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
A valid driver's license may be required.
