ROLE SUMMARY
The Maintenance Assistant provides numerous services indoors and outdoors in a variety of areas, including general maintenance and cleaning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and renovations.
Job Summary**
The Maintenance Assistant at Netcare Hospitals (Pty) Limited plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and well-maintained operation of our hospital facilities. This position supports the maintenance team in delivering high-quality patient care environments by performing a variety of routine maintenance tasks and assisting skilled technicians.
Job Responsibilities**
- Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks, including checking and cleaning equipment, replacing filters, and lubricating moving parts.
- Assist skilled technicians (e.g., electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians) with repairs and installations, including carrying tools, fetching parts, and providing support as directed.
- Conduct minor repairs such as patching walls, changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and unblocking drains.
- Inspect facilities regularly to identify and report any maintenance needs or safety hazards.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work performed, materials used, and time spent.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assist with the setup and dismantling of equipment or furniture as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and maintenance workshops.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and contractors.
Job Qualifications**
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a maintenance or facilities support role, preferably within a healthcare environment, is advantageous.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance practices, including plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Good physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and stand for extended periods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A valid driver's license may be required.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
