About The Role

Job Summary

The Structural and Dynamic Systems Technical Specialist – Analytical is responsible for performing advanced structural and dynamic analysis of components and systems using analytical and simulation tools to support product development. The role evaluates structural performance, identifies design improvements, and provides engineering recommendations to ensure products meet performance, durability, reliability, and customer requirements. Working closely with Design, Product Validation, Materials, and Thermal Sciences teams, the specialist supports product development through simulation, data-driven analysis, and continuous improvement of engineering processes and analytical methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform structural and dynamic analysis of components and systems using analytical and simulation tools to evaluate product performance, durability, reliability, and structural integrity.
  • Develop, execute, and interpret numerical simulations to assess parameters such as stress, strain, fatigue life, vibration, motion, load distribution, natural frequencies, design margins, and sound power.
  • Collaborate with Design, Product Validation, Materials, Thermal Sciences, and cross-functional engineering teams to define analysis requirements and support product development activities.
  • Provide engineering recommendations to optimize component design, material selection, geometry, and manufacturing processes based on analytical results.
  • Support product validation by comparing analytical predictions with physical test data and recommending design improvements where required.
  • Apply engineering principles and simulation methodologies to resolve complex technical issues and support product problem-solving activities.
  • Utilize engineering tools such as ANSYS, FE-Safe, GT-Suite, AVL Excite , and other simulation software to perform structural, vibration, durability, and fatigue analyses.
  • Develop, improve, and standardize analytical methods, modeling techniques, and engineering processes to improve simulation accuracy and engineering efficiency.
  • Lead or support engineering projects involving structural analysis, simulation, product optimization, and technical investigations.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, presentations, and design recommendations for project teams and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate technical activities with technicians, contractors, and junior engineers while providing technical guidance and mentoring.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing engineering workflows, analytical processes, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Cummins engineering standards, quality requirements, and product development processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Structural Engineering, or another relevant STEM discipline.
  • Master's degree in Structural Dynamics, Mechanical Engineering, Simulation, or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of structural mechanics, finite element analysis, vibration, fatigue, and durability engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with Cummins product development processes, engineering standards, and validation methodologies is preferred.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Skills and Experience Needed

  • 5+ years of experience in gear train design, analysis, and development for automotive, off-highway, industrial, or powertrain applications.
  • Strong understanding of gear geometry, gear mesh behaviour, bearing systems, and transmission architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with gear analysis tools such as MASTA , Romax
  • Experience performing gear durability, bearing life, efficiency, and power loss calculations using ISO/AGMA standards.
  • Knowledge of gear dynamics, NVH, torsional vibration, and drivetrain system behaviour.
  • Proficiency in structural FEA using ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent.
  • Experience with DFMEA, design reviews, root-cause analysis, and validation planning.
  • Working knowledge of gear manufacturing processes, heat treatment, and GD&T.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
