About the Team

DreamsTech – Accelerated Value Team (AVT) rapidly identifies and delivers high-value technology opportunities for Lowe’s Omni Channel E-Commerce Application teams. The team pilots emerging capabilities and drives initiatives from concept through measurable business outcomes in partnership with product, engineering, design, and business teams. AVT combines expertise across backend, frontend, mobile, APIs, microservices, data, and cloud technologies to solve retail and e-commerce challenges. Guided by customer focus, ownership, simplicity, and a bias for action, the team delivers practical solutions that create value.

As a Senior Software Engineer (Backend), you will design, develop, and support scalable, secure, and resilient backend services, APIs, integrations, and distributed systems that power Lowe's enterprise and customer-facing platforms. You will translate business requirements into high-quality technical solutions, ensuring reliability, performance, maintainability, observability, and long-term scalability.

You will collaborate closely with Product, Architecture, Data, and Engineering teams to deliver robust, cloud-native applications while owning the end-to-end software development lifecycle from design and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and production support.

As a senior engineer, you will drive engineering excellence by influencing technical decisions, mentoring engineers, promoting best practices, and continuously improving system quality, operational efficiency, and platform reliability.

Roles & Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deliver high-quality backend services, APIs, integrations, and data-driven solutions.
  • Build scalable, secure, and resilient microservices and distributed systems using service-oriented and event-driven architecture patterns.
  • Translate business and product requirements into robust technical solutions while balancing scalability, performance, maintainability, security, and code quality.
  • Design and implement APIs, backend integrations, data models, asynchronous processing, and event-driven communication patterns.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code supported by automated testing and CI/CD best practices.
  • Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and code reviews to ensure alignment with engineering standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Product, Architecture, UX, QA, Data, and partner engineering teams to deliver high-quality software that meets business objectives.
  • Troubleshoot complex development and integration issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective technical solutions.
  • Continuously improve development practices by automating builds, testing, code quality, and deployment pipelines to accelerate delivery.
  • Mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, design discussions, technical documentation, demos, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Evaluate emerging backend technologies, frameworks, and engineering practices, and recommend improvements that enhance development productivity and solution quality.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of assigned features from technical design through implementation, testing, documentation, and successful handoff to the owning engineering team.

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in software development or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in backend development, including microservices, APIs, middleware, database technologies, integrations, or DevOps.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience delivering solutions through iterative Agile software development lifecycle practices.
  • Education Qualification & Certifications (optional)
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.

Skill Set Required

Primary Skills (must have)

  • Deep expertise in Java, Spring Boot, and modern backend frameworks for building scalable, production-grade services.
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, service contracts, backend integrations, and event-driven architectures.
  • Strong understanding of system design, distributed systems, and solution architecture principles.
  • Strong knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases, including data modeling, query optimization, persistence, caching, and data lifecycle management.
  • Experience with messaging and streaming platforms such as Kafka or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience developing cloud-native applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices.
  • Strong understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, API security, data protection, and secure software development practices.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex application and integration issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing high-quality technical solutions.
  • Experience working in Agile environments with strong collaboration and communication skills across Product, Architecture, QA, and Engineering teams.
  • Ability to mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing.

Secondary Skills (desired)

  • Experience working in retail, commerce, order management, customer, product, pricing, or enterprise integration domains.
  • API design and documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger and API testing tools such as Postman.
  • GraphQL and gRPC service development.
  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar technologies).
  • Build automation using Maven and Gradle.
  • Source control and collaboration using Git, Bitbucket, GitHub, or GitLab.
  • Test automation using JUnit, Mockito, Test Containers, Wire Mock, or similar frameworks.
  • Performance and API testing using JMeter, Gatling, or K6.
  • Search technologies such as Elasticsearch or OpenSearch.
  • Distributed caching technologies such as Redis.
  • AI-assisted software development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, ChatGPT, Claude, etc.).
  • Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into enterprise applications.
  • Experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), AI agents, or Agentic AI frameworks.
  • Domain-Driven Design (DDD), SOLID principles, and Clean Architecture.
  • Technical documentation and solution design using UML, C4 models, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and OpenAPI specifications.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Continuous learning mindset with the ability to quickly adopt new technologies and engineering practices.
