About this role

Responsible for preparing position descriptions, maintaining the organizational structure and salary schedule, and performing in-depth job analysis, including research, interpretation, and assessment of jobs and market information.

What a day of a Classification and Compensation Specialist looks like

  • Conducts position evaluations, job audits, job classifications, and pay equity reviews. Ensures compliance with regulations and labor and employment laws.
  • Collaborates with managers and leadership teams in analyzing and reviewing job classification and reclassification requests. Ensures quality control of the job classification process for both existing positions and newly created positions, performing job audits as appropriate.
  • Researches competitive compensation practices in the job market and conducts position benchmark analyses.
  • Develops and writes job descriptions to accurately describe job content. Conducts desk audits to determine the appropriate information to use in preparing or editing job descriptions.
  • Reviews and processes classification and compensation requests in the system providing guidance to employees as needed. Tests classification and compensation processes in the system.
  • Participates in third-party and custom salary surveys to identify and track the relevant labor market. Contributes to various other compensation activities, including completing ad hoc job evaluation and market data requests.
  • Analyzes and evaluates positions and conducts audits for assessment of proper classification and assignment of salary grades and title recommendations.
  • Maintains the organizational structure and job profiles within the system. Maintains salary schedule document, incorporating approved changes, additions, or deletions.
  • Reviews proposed salary increases and employment offers and provides feedback based on analysis of the labor market and internal parity.
  • Maintains current knowledge of field or profession. Travels to training workshops, conferences, meetings, and professional association events outside of college locations, as needed.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of related experience in human resources, OR Associate’s degree and three years of related experience in human resources

Knowledge of

  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application
  • Human resource management concepts, practices, laws, regulations, policies, and precedents

Skilled in

  • Advanced level Microsoft Excel
  • Attention to detail while maintaining effective time and task management
  • Strategic thinking, including effective planning, setting goals, monitoring progress, tracking results, and making appropriate adjustments to plans based on circumstances and context

Ability to

  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing on a regular basis with internal and external customers, build relationships, manage customer expectations, and take responsibility for a high level of service
  • Successfully manage deadlines for projects and multiple competing tasks and priorities
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion utilizing company policies and principles yet knowing when to escalate
  • Take initiative and be a self-starter, manage projects, determine priorities and maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Organize and prioritize multiple, competing priorities to maximize personal and team effectiveness
  • Express and present complex concepts and information in a manner easily understood by others

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements

  • Regular physical attendance required

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field of study
  • Classification and compensation experience
  • Experience within an educational environment
  • Workday experience

Knowledge of

  • FLSA and DOL regulatory and compliance requirements, and a thorough understanding of compensation practices and trends

Licenses, Registration, Certifications, or Special Requirements

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or similar certification

The minimum base pay for this position starts at $23.51/hourly; however, the offer may vary based on the candidate’s education and experience.
