Job Overview
The Senior Electrical Designer completes a variety of Electrical Design assignments as needed and can complete work with a limited degree of supervision. They are an informal resource for colleagues with less Electrical Design experience. They developed proficiency in a range of analytical processes or procedures to carry out assigned tasks. They provide solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on existing precedents or procedures. The Senior Electrical Designer directly impacts the quality of the work of the team.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Prepare key project deliverables, including (but not limited to) the following:
- Block Diagrams
- Area Classification Drawings
- One-line diagrams
- Motor control schematics
- Lighting Layout Drawings
- Cable tray drawings
- Cable sizing calculations
- Conduit & cable schedules
- AG/UG power drawings
- Prepare bills of material and perform MTO of electrical items (cables, lights, tray, glands)
- Support Project Development and Coordination, including (but not limited to) the following:
- Maintain and promote a focus on McDermott’s end-product throughout engineering, fabrication or construction
- Report to and coordinate with electrical engineering project lead and electrical task lead, as applicable
- Effectively communicate with electrical design lead and project electrical designers and engineers
- Recognize and manage change with full awareness of project impact, keeping lead designer informed
- Assume responsibility for deliverables/activities to which are assigned
- Mentor and support the activities of less experienced designers
- Provide Site Support, including (but not limited to) the following:
- Provide off-site and/or on-site design/drafting support for construction
- Coordinate with home office staff to resolve issues as required
- Maintain drawing as-builts, redlines, and support RFI efforts as required
- US Work Authorization
Essential Qualifications and Education
- Prefer Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree
- Minimum 5+ years of detailed electrical design experience
- Heavy experience working with modeling and Smartplant software (PDS or S3D, SPE) and Field Installations; Superuser / administrator level experienced with project & database setup
- Experience with domestic and/or international electrical codes and standards
- Work history weighted towards chemicals / gas processing / refinery
- Knowledge of tray/conduit fill calcs. Understanding of NEC/NFPA
- Heavy experience using AutoCad
- Technical knowledge of the electrical detailed design/drafting process
- Experience using MS Office Suite including Excel and Word
