About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Lawyer to join our Technology Legal team, partnering closely with the team responsible for managing Westpac's technology assets, strategic supplier relationships and technology contracts. To support the recent growth and expansion of this area, you will work on a diverse and interesting mix of complex technology matters, as well as digital and AI initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Reviewing, drafting, and leading negotiations on technology contracts and transactions.
  • Identifying and resolving legal issues and briefing stakeholders on key matters and status of negotiations.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support our legal and risk strategy, including Westpac Group’s compliance with laws and internal policies in a proactive manner.

About you

You'll be an experienced senior technology lawyer who enjoys partnering closely with the business and helping stakeholders navigate complex legal and commercial challenges. Comfortable working in fast-paced environments, you'll bring sound judgement, a pragmatic approach and a collaborative mindset, along with the ability to influence outcomes across a complex organisation.

What do I need?

  • 10+ years PQE advising on complex technology, digital and AI matters, with strong capability across technology contracting, negotiation and legal risk management.
  • Sound commercial judgement and the ability to provide practical legal advice that enables business outcomes while appropriately managing risk.
  • The confidence to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, influence decision-making and navigate complex environments.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies and innovation, including developments across AI, privacy, data and digital transformation.
  • A collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to balance competing priorities while delivering high-quality work.
