About The Role

Job Description Summary

UMES is seeking a Student Support Liaison who will provide one-to-one behavioral, communication, and functional support to an assigned student. Specific needs of the student and specific interventions will be determined through an interactive process between the Office of Student Accessibility Services, the student, and the Student Support Liaison. This position supports the student throughout the day, during the time that the student is present on campus.

The Student Support Liaison must agree to complete all hiring paperwork and processes as established by the Office of Human Resources, understand and abide by OIE/SAS Confidentiality parameters, and UMES academic integrity policies, and inform OIE/SAS staff as soon as possible if they are unavailable for a specific date or time. The Student Support Liaison must also agree to complete bi-weekly timesheets to SAS.

Salary Range: $16.75 - $25.00

Safe and Sick Leave Guidelines

  • Pursuant to the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act, if you are regularly
  • scheduled to work a minimum of 12 hours a week, you will be entitled to
  • accrue Sick and Safe leave at the rate of 1 (one) hour for every 30 hours
  • worked up to a maximum accrual of 40 hours per calendar year. You may
  • carry over up to 40 hours of Sick and Safe leave per calendar year. You may
  • use up to 64 hours of accrued Sick and Safe leave per calendar year and
  • may accrue up to a maximum of 64 hours of Sick and Safe leave in total at
  • any time.
  • You will not be eligible to use Sick and Safe leave until 106 days from your
  • date of hire. Sick and Safe leave balances will be carried over for contract
  • renewals. Upon termination from employment, you will not be entitled to
  • payment for any unused Sick and Safe leave balance; however, if you leave
  • employment and are re-employed within 37 weeks of your last contract
  • termination date, you will be entitled to have any unused Sick and Safe
  • leave reinstated.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and be present for all interactions with the student, staff, and

faculty.

  • Accompany the student to classes and during transition times between

scheduled classes.

  • Reinforce appropriate behavior in the classroom setting.
  • Redirect student if exhibiting behavior that is disruptive to the classroom

setting.

  • Comply with all classroom protocols as it relates to classroom etiquette,
  • compliance and safety. mandates, and any rules or procedures established
  • by the faculty member. This includes limiting. distractions and the use of
  • personal devices in the classroom.
  • Report any classroom or student related issues or concerns to SAS

immediately.

  • Remain a point of contact for the student as it relates to classroom or other

campus related activities.

Physical Demands

  • May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at

desk.

  • May require lifting.
  • Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and

internally.

  • Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.

Preferences

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with UMES

Faculty, Students, and Staff.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with assigned student.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment and technology.
  • Physical ability to maneuver campus; this position may require a significant

amount of walking between campus buildings.

  • Availability weekdays, that coincide with the students class schedule.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
