JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Airport Maintenance Director, the Airport Custodian Lead oversees daily custodial operations at East Texas Regional Airport. This position provides leadership, direction, and oversight to custodial personnel by assigning work, developing schedules, conducting inspections, maintaining supplies and equipment, and ensuring airport facilities meet established cleanliness, safety, and operational standards.
The Airport Custodian Lead coordinates with Airport Operations, Maintenance, airport tenants, contractors, and other County departments to support airport operations. This position ensures compliance with airport policies, TSA security requirements, OSHA safety standards, County procedures, and applicable regulations while maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for passengers, tenants, employees, and visitors.
Essential Job Duties
- Supervise, schedule, assign, train, and provide direction to custodial personnel.
- Develop daily cleaning schedules and coordinate custodial assignments.
- Monitor employee performance and provide coaching, feedback, and recommendations to the Airport Maintenance Director.
- Conduct facility inspections to ensure cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and quality standards are maintained.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with established procedures and expectations.
- Train employees on custodial procedures, equipment operation, chemical handling, safety practices, and airport requirements.
- Operate custodial equipment including buffers, sweepers, steam cleaners, blowers, vacuums, power washers, and related hand tools.
- Maintain custodial supplies, cleaning materials, equipment, and inventory records.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory documentation.
- Ensure compliance with airport security procedures, TSA requirements, OSHA standards, and applicable safety regulations.
- Perform security escort responsibilities as required.

- Coordinate with Airport Operations, Maintenance, tenants, contractors, and County departments regarding facility maintenance needs.
- Assist with identifying training needs and recommending professional development opportunities for custodial personnel.

- Maintain work orders, inspection reports, inventory records, attendance records, training documentation, and performance records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of commercial custodial methods, cleaning procedures, and facility sanitation practices.
- Knowledge of proper use, storage, and handling of cleaning chemicals and materials.
- Knowledge of floor care, restroom sanitation, and general facility maintenance practices.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment and related hand tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to prioritize and manage work effectively under time-sensitive, safety-critical, and operationally complex conditions.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and safe work practices.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, reports, logs, and operational documentation.
- Ability to maintain inventory control and identify equipment maintenance needs.
- Ability to promote, enforce, and model a strong safety culture and compliance with safety procedures.

Minimum Education, Certification, and Experience Requirements
- Education:
- NA.
- Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of custodial, janitorial, facilities maintenance, or related experience.
- Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.
- Prior airport experience preferred but not required.
- Must speak, read, write, and understand English. Bilingual preferred.
- Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid driver’s license required; Texas driver’s license required within 90 days of hire.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge throughout employment.
- Background Check:
- Must successfully pass a 10-year fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
- Must meet all airport security screening requirements.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including walking, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, climbing, lifting, and carrying.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to perform work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work in an active airport environment requiring physical activity and attention to safety.
- Work Environment:
- Work is performed in an active airport environment operating 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
- Schedule may include nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts, overtime, and on-call assignments.
- Position is designated as essential personnel and may be subject to emergency callback for operational needs, severe weather events, and airport emergencies.
- Exposure may include weather conditions, heat, cold, dust, noise, cleaning chemicals, traffic hazards, and aircraft operations.
- Must comply with airport safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
$30,467.00 annually
