About The Role
DescriptionPosition Value Proposition
The Drawing Reviewer is responsible for reviewing shop drawings and erection drawings for presentation/constructability quality to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established drawing standards prior to release for fabrication or field use. Working under the direction of the Drawing Quality Manager, the Drawing Reviewer verifies that drawings clearly communicate all required information needed for fabrication and erection while maintaining consistency with company standards and detailing best practices.
Core Responsibilities
Drawing Quality Review
- Review shop drawings and erection drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, and adherence to internal quality standards.
- Verify that drawings contain all required dimensions and information necessary for fabrication and erection.
Dimension and Layout Verification
- Confirm that running dimensions are properly applied and clearly shown.
- Ensure all required dimensions are present, accurate, and logically placed to support fabrication and assembly.
Part Identification
Verify that all part marks are clearly shown, properly labeled, and consistently referenced throughout the drawings.
Welding Information Review
Confirm that weld symbols are correctly specified, accurate, and clearly displayed in accordance with drawing standards.
Drawing Standards Compliance
- Ensure proper naming and classification of main member worktypes.
- Verify that drawing formatting, labeling, and annotation follow company detailing standards.
Issue Identification and Feedback
- Identify drawing discrepancies, omissions, or quality concerns and communicate findings to the detailing team for correction.
- Provide clear and constructive feedback to help improve drawing quality.
Process Adherence
- Follow established drawing review procedures and checklists.
- Support continuous improvement efforts by identifying recurring quality issues and suggesting improvements to drawing standards.
Communication and Documentation
Clearly communicate/document relevant issues and collaborate with all upstream and downstream stakeholders

Work Experience
At least five (5) years related experience in the coordination of structural steel projects. Associates degree or higher, and/or training from an approved and accredited technical school in engineering or detailing/drafting may substitute for the required experience.
Education/Training
High School Diploma or GED required.
Specialized Knowledge
Ability to read and interpret shop, construction, and design drawings.
General understanding and knowledge of basic drafting skills, 3D modeling software/Tekla practices, fabrication and erection standards, standard technical terminology, common structural steel practices, and drafting room procedures.
Experience with structural steel shop drawings, erection drawings, or construction detailing preferred.
Understanding of dimensioning practices, weld symbols, and fabrication drawing requirements.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors or inconsistencies in technical drawings.
Familiarity with detailing software and drawing standards is preferred.
Software, Technology and Equipment
Personal Computer; phone; Computer Software includes: MS Windows 11, MS Office Word, Excel, and Outlook; Bluebeam Revu, Tekla Structures, et al.
Work Environment
Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions. Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position.
