Summary

Position Summary: Breckenridge Village (BVT) is a Christ-centered community serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our RN -PRN Team ensures that all interactions reflect Breckenridge Village’s values: Love God, Value People, Care Passionately, Work Together.

There are times when additional medical supervision and support are needed on our Campus. The RN -PRN provides short-term, as-needed medical coverage to help ensure the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals we serve. This position works collaboratively with BVT staff and leadership to respond to medical needs, provide appropriate first aid and emergency care within the scope of RN certification, and assist with assessing situations that may require additional medical attention.

The RN -PRN serves as a calm, compassionate, and professional medical resource while interacting respectfully with individuals with IDD, their families, and BVT team members. The position may be scheduled for special events , periods of increased medical needs, staff shortages, or other short-term campus coverage need.

The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, observant, and comfortable working with adults with IDD. The RN -PRN must be able to respond appropriately to medical concerns, communicate effectively with the BVT team, maintain appropriate documentation , and follow BVT policies and procedures.

This is a PRN, short-term position with hours based on the medical coverage needs of the Breckenridge Village campus.

Essential Functions

Perform nursing duties in accordance with nursing guidelines and best practices established by the Texas Board o f Nursing for Registered Nurses

Respond to injuries and illness during normal business hours

Maintain real time medical documentation

Create nurse progress note, in real time, in PCC when any communication regarding medical care is received from or provided to a resident, guardian, or Breckenridge Village staff member

Review a ppointment summaries and audit documentation into PCC.

Audit medication administration records (MAR) in real time when medications are changed, added or discontinued .

Conduct doctor follow up on abnormal exams or specialty requests

Pull and review special procedure diagnostics

Must be able to perform physical activity such as extensive walking, lifting of patients, stretching and bending

Report signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation and sexually provocative behavior and implement professional response, reporting and documenting procedures

Adhere to professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in Breckenridge Village personnel polity manual including demonstrating respect for agency staff, residents, and community members and complying with required dress code at all times

Provide 1:1 (one to one) supervision for residents when medically necessary on our campus, in a hospital or other locations as needed.

While providing 1:1 (one to one) supervision for residents, our RN -PRN will act as an advocate on the resident’s behalf.

Measurable Deliverables

Meet all state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this positio n, with no deficiencies or concerns regarding medical care during annual fundamental surveys.

M aintain resident physical and mental safety by making immediate report of any changes in resident health of behavior to the Nurse Manager and the QIDP with whom resident is assigned

Provide the highest level of resident care

Daily review of communication from residents, parents/guardians, QIDP or any other team member and act as required ,

Address each medical concern with urgency

Treat resident medical needs as though you would for your own family

In emergency situations, call 911 first

Ensure proper time management of all daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual tasks

Document all resident health information as close to real time as possible but not later than 24 hours

Communication timeframes (during normal business hours)

Phone Calls: Answer phone calls promptly when available. If unable to answer, return the call as soon as reasonably possible, with a goal of responding within one hour .

Text Messages: Respond to text messages promptly when available. If unable to respond immediately , reply as soon as reasonably possible, with a goal of responding within one hour .

Emails: Answer all emails with the goal of responding within one day.

Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics

Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, and professionals

e. Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English.

F. Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure at all times and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population

Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position

f. Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team

Credentials, Skills and Abilities

Maintain current licenses and certificates required for the position including, but not limited to

  • Good standing as a Registered Nurse with the state of Texas Board of Nursing
  • Current BL S certifications and First Aid Certification
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License .
  • Pass pre -employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Must be able to maintain professional people skills, oral, written, listening, and non-verbal communication skills
