Job Summary

Bring your clinical skills to a specialty care team where your work directly supports patients with ear, nose, throat, head, and neck conditions. Wentworth-Douglass Head and Neck Specialty is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to join our collaborative practice in Somersworth, NH. About Wentworth-Douglass Head and Neck Specialty

Located at 361 High Street in Somersworth, New Hampshire, our practice provides state-of-the-art medical and surgical care for patients with disorders of the ears, nose, and throat. We care for patients across a wide range of conditions, including nasal and sinus disease, sleep disorders, sleep apnea and snoring, allergies, asthma, hearing loss, chronic ear infections, and ENT cancer.

Schedule and Location

This is a full-time, 40-hour onsite position, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., supporting our Head and Neck Specialty practice at 361 High Street, Somersworth, NH 03878.

As a Medical Assistant on this team, you will play an important role in keeping patient visits running smoothly while partnering closely with providers, nurses, and administrative colleagues. You’ll have the opportunity to use a broad range of clinical skills, including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting patient information, supporting patient education, assisting with specimens, and contributing to disinfection and sterile processing workflows. We do our best to keep employees in their assigned practice and location; however, you may also be asked to float to other departments in the WHP system when appropriate and needed during staffing shortages or other extenuating circumstances to support patient care and maintain adequate coverage.

What You’ll Do

  • Room patients, prepare exam rooms, and support patient flow throughout the day.
  • Obtain and document medical histories, vital signs, weight, height, and other patient information in the medical record.
  • Prepare equipment and supplies for providers and assist with clinical visit needs.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and provider instructions to patients using clear and compassionate communication.
  • Collect, log, and prepare blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens for testing; perform phlebotomy when competency is demonstrated.
  • Support general office needs, including phone coverage, forms, coordination with other departments, and patient advocacy.
  • Maintain inventory, support immunization workflows as applicable, and contribute to departmental quality initiatives such as hand hygiene and two patient identifiers.
  • Assist with onboarding and day-to-day support for junior Medical Assistants when needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
  • Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field experience of 1–2 years required.
  • Basic Life Support certification preferred.
  • National Certified Medical Assistant credential preferred.
  • Ability to take vital signs, obtain manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples or other specimens.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
  • Comfort using electronic health record systems and medical office software.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, accuracy, time management, and problem-solving skills.
