About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Marketing & Communications Manager to join our team at SLC. This is a fixed term contract for approx. 12 months to cover maternity leave.

As Marketing & Communications Manager, you will lead the delivery of customer-facing marketing and communications activity for their assigned business area, directing a multi-disciplined team to produce campaigns and content that are digitally focused, customer-driven and consistent with SLC's brand. The role plays a key part in shaping how customers experience SLC's services, ensuring communications are clear, accessible and effective in supporting both customer understanding and behaviour change.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across the business, the role holder brings insight and evidence to shape marketing strategy and communications approaches, as well as ensuring activity is delivered to a professional standard that reflects best practice across government communications.

What you bring

  • Excellent understanding of customer-focused marketing and communications principles, with the ability to translate business objectives into effective campaigns.
  • Skilled in developing marketing and communications plans using structured planning frameworks.
  • Ability to apply behavioural insight or evidence-based approaches to influence audience understanding or behaviour.
  • Ability to brief, plan, organise, execute and evaluate marketing projects to agreed timescales, budgets and quality standards.
  • Understanding of accessibility principles and their application to customer communications and marketing content.
  • Awareness of data protection principles and their application to marketing and communications activity, including direct marketing and digital campaigns.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across multiple projects and teams.
  • Practical experience of working in a customer-focused marketing and communications role, with a track record of developing and delivering campaigns that support business or organisational objectives.
  • Experience managing or contributing to the leadership of a multi-disciplinary team, such as marketing executives, designers, social media specialists or campaign coordinators.
  • Proven capability in working across multiple stakeholders, including senior colleagues, to align communications and marketing activity with wider organisational priorities.
  • Expertise in planning, delivering and evaluating marketing campaigns across a range of digital and traditional channels.
  • Knowledge of managing budgets and resources for marketing or communications activity, with an understanding of financial controls and reporting.
