About The Role

The Principal Consultant – Project Controls will play a key role in driving best‑practice project planning, controls, reporting, and governance across the UK Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) PMO portfolio. This role leads project controls delivery, supports program performance insights, and enables effective decision‑making for internal stakeholders and client organisations. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical capability, leadership, and extensive hands‑on experience in planning, controls, forecasting, and digital reporting.

Project Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop, review, and maintain integrated project schedules across multiple programs.
  • Ensure schedule logic, critical path, milestones, risk allowances, and dependencies meet PMO standards.
  • Facilitate schedule workshops with project managers and discipline leads.

Cost Management & Forecasting

  • Develop and manage project budgets, cashflows, cost forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Monitor earned value metrics and report deviations with actionable insights.
  • Support contingency planning and cost risk analysis.

Project Controls Governance

  • Implement WSP/T&I PMO project controls frameworks, ensuring compliance across projects.
  • Establish baselines and oversee change control processes.
  • Drive adoption of best practices, templates, and standards.

Reporting & Dashboarding

  • Produce accurate and timely project and portfolio reports covering schedule, cost, risk, and progress.
  • Work closely with digital teams to develop automated dashboards and reporting tools.
  • Present performance insights to leadership and client stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership

  • Collaborate with project managers, design leads, finance teams, and external partners.
  • Mentor junior planning and controls staff; provide technical guidance to the PMO.
  • Participate in continuous improvement, innovation initiatives, and capability building.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or related field.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in project planning and controls (preferably in Infrastructure, or Engineering consulting environments).
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project, Power BI, and advanced MS Excel.
  • Experience in leading a successful team ranging from 10+ members
  • Strong understanding of cost management, risk management, earned value management (EVM), and project governance frameworks.
  • Experience working in multi‑disciplinary teams and managing complex portfolios.
  • PMI (PMP) Certified or APM (PMQ) / RICS (MRICS) Qualifications.

  • Experience within an engineering consulting environment is an asset

  • Ability to influence stakeholders and drive process adherence.
  • Ability to manage virtual teams, address conflict management effectively
  • Experience in process automation, dashboard development, or digital transformation.
