Job Description

PRN Treatment Medical Assistant

The START Center for Cancer Care

The START Center for Cancer Care is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and patient-focused PRN Treatment Medical Assistant to join our team. This position plays an important role in supporting patient care by assisting providers, ensuring efficient clinic operations, and delivering exceptional service to patients throughout their treatment journey.

As a PRN team member, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated oncology care team in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment committed to providing outstanding cancer care.

Position Status

This is a PRN (as needed) position . PRN employees are not eligible for company-sponsored benefits. However, should a PRN employee transition into a full-time benefits-eligible position, benefits will become effective on their first day in the full-time role.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document patients' vital signs, height, and weight, and escort patients to examination rooms.
  • Perform venipuncture procedures as ordered by providers.
  • Properly label all blood specimens and ensure timely submission to the laboratory.
  • Clean and maintain examination rooms, ensuring appropriate supplies are stocked and work areas remain safe and organized.
  • Perform back-office support functions, including EMR fax filing, chart preparation, and telephone coverage as needed.
  • Assist front desk staff with patient check-in, scheduling, appointment verification, and other administrative tasks.
  • Accurately document patient information, including required CMS Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) data.
  • Support clinical and operational workflows to promote quality patient care and efficient clinic operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Strong phlebotomy and venipuncture skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-centered approach.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
