About The Role

Over the past years, ING Tech has made significant progress in reducing energy consumption, carbon emissions and electronic waste, while improving transparency on environmental impact. To accelerate and coordinate these efforts, we are looking for an experienced and inspiring Lead Global Green Tech.

In this highly visible role, you will lead the Green Tech agenda across ING's global technology organisation. You will bring together people, initiatives and capabilities to turn ambition into measurable impact. Your mission is to help ING deliver growing technology services with a progressively lower environmental impact per unit of business value delivered, while embedding sustainability into everyday engineering and business decisions.

The Lead Global Green Tech reports to the CIO Global Infrastructure, executive sponsor of the Green Tech strategy, and is positioned within the Product Vision and Portfolio Tribe.

Your Responsibilities

As Lead Green Tech, you will

  • Own and prioritise the Green Tech portfolio and roadmap, balancing stakeholder demand, business value, regulatory requirements and implementation capacity to maximise impact. Good to know that the current top 5 on the roadmap are: rightsizing of infra, sustainable AI, green coding, embodied carbon and embedding a sustainability mindset.
  • Develop the strategy and drive delivery of sustainability initiatives across the technology organisation and ensure measurable business outcomes.
  • Use environmental, operational and financial data to identify improvement opportunities, prioritise investments and continuously optimise Green Tech outcome.
  • Influence and align senior stakeholders across Technology, Business, Risk and Support Functions.
  • Drive adoption of Green Tech capabilities by translating sustainability ambitions into scalable products, services, standards and measurable business outcomes.
  • Build and nurture a vibrant network of sustainability advocates, communities and subject matter experts.
  • Identify emerging trends, regulatory developments and industry best practices and translate them into actionable opportunities for ING.
  • Combine the strategic vision and value orientation of a Product Manager with the stakeholder and transformation leadership capabilities of a Change Expert.
  • Ensure sustainability considerations become an integral part of technology decision-making, architecture, engineering and operational processes.

  • Deliver measurable improvements in environmental efficiency, helping ING provide growing technology services with a progressively lower environmental impact per unit of business value delivered.
  • Increase adoption of sustainable engineering practices across Tech.
  • Create strong engagement and ownership across a broad network of stakeholders.
  • Establish Green Tech as a recognised and embedded capability and long-term behavioural change within ING.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of experience leading complex change initiatives in a large organisation.
  • Experience within financial services or another highly regulated industry.
  • Proven track record of delivering sustainability, ESG, technology transformation or organisational change programmes.
  • Experience in influencing senior executives and managing diverse stakeholder interests.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead cross-functional teams without formal hierarchical authority.

Knowledge & Expertise

  • Strong understanding of sustainability challenges, ESG developments and emerging trends relevant to technology organisations.
  • Good understanding of modern technology landscapes, infrastructure and engineering practices.
  • Experience using data, metrics and insights to drive decision-making and prioritisation.
  • Understanding of relevant sustainability regulations, standards and industry developments.

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate complexity into clear priorities and actions.
  • Strong communicator who can engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Creative and intellectually curious, able to reframe complex problems, challenge the status quo, and devise innovative yet pragmatic solutions that accelerate progress and remove impediments
  • Pragmatic, hands-on and delivery focused.
  • Resilient and persistent, with the ability to drive long-term change.
  • Collaborative leader who builds trust, alignment and momentum across organisational boundaries.
  • Authentic advocate for sustainability who leads by example.

Education

  • Master’s degree in technology, engineering, environmental sciences or a related discipline.
