Position Summary

The Assistant Starbucks Manager supports the Starbucks Manager in overseeing all aspects of Starbucks department operations, including customer service, beverage and food quality, associate development, merchandising, inventory management, food safety compliance, and financial performance. This position helps ensure a welcoming café environment, exceptional customer experiences, operational excellence, and achievement of department sales and profitability goals.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations

  • Assist in managing daily Starbucks operations.
  • Ensure beverages and food items are prepared and served according to company and brand standards.
  • Support execution of operational procedures, promotions, and seasonal programs.
  • Monitor product availability and assist with ordering and inventory management.
  • Maintain department readiness, cleanliness, and organization throughout operating hours.
  • Help ensure efficient workflow during peak business periods.

Customer Service

  • Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture.
  • Create a welcoming environment that encourages customer loyalty and repeat business.
  • Assist customers with beverage selections, product information, and special requests.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Maintain service standards that drive customer satisfaction and engagement.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Assist with training, coaching, and developing Starbucks associates.
  • Provide daily direction, support, and leadership to team members.
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Reinforce company policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
  • Assist with scheduling, deployment, and labor utilization.
  • Assume department leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Starbucks Manager.

Merchandising & Inventory Management

  • Ensure merchandise, beverages, and food displays meet company standards.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify replenishment needs.
  • Assist with receiving, storage, rotation, and inventory control procedures.
  • Help minimize waste and shrink through proper handling and inventory practices.
  • Ensure pricing, signage, and promotional materials are accurate and properly displayed.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, health, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, labeling, and storage procedures.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized preparation and service areas.
  • Ensure proper operation, cleaning, and maintenance of department equipment.
  • Support department readiness for inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.

Financial Performance

  • Assist in achieving department sales, labor, customer satisfaction, and profitability goals.
  • Monitor operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support labor management and productivity initiatives.
  • Assist in controlling expenses through effective inventory and operational practices.
  • Contribute to department success through strong execution and accountability.

Qualifications

  • Previous Starbucks, coffee shop, food service, retail, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong customer service and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and beverage preparation standards preferred.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop associates.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
  • Basic computer and operational knowledge.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to lift and move products consistent with department requirements.
  • Ability to safely operate beverage and food preparation equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced customer service environment.
  • Flexible availability, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
