Research Specialist – BMED

About The Role
The Research Specialist will be responsible for assisting in conducting guided research in the Biobehavioral Mechanisms Explaining Disparities (BMED) Lab. Under the guidance of the lab manager and/or project coordinator, the individual will assist with conducting participant visits and maintaining study materials, individual participant files, and standard operating procedures for a National Institutes of Health (NIH) RF1 grant. The position will involve handling sensitive and confidential information that must be secured, and the individual must ensure that the private information of study participants remains confidential.
This is a part-time position working up to 20 hours per week and is funded by grant funds for one year.

Workplace Requirements & Location
- This position is primarily on-site at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Per Rice policy 440 , work arrangements may be subject to change.
- Hiring Range: $21.64/hour
- *Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree
- 1+ years of experience
- In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education beyond the minimum requirement may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.
- Valid Texas Driver's License

- Phlebotomy training or willingness to complete training upon the start of employment
Preferences
- Related psychological laboratory and/or research experience
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information
Essential Functions
- Conduct specialized research and experiments
- Collect, track, and analyze data using spreadsheets and databases
- May assist in the administration of research projects
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions
- Conduct participant study visits, including home visits. Mileage will be reimbursed.
- Recruit and screen potential study participants
