ROLE SUMMARY

The Radiation Therapist is a member of the Radiation Oncology Team and is primarily responsible for designing and accurately calculating a treatment plan, quality assurance of this treatment plan and the delivery of radiation treatment based on the Radiation Oncologist’s prescribed course and in accordance with established practices and standards.

DISRUPTIVE INNOVATION

Administration

  • Follow and adhere to Standard Operating Procedures.

Research activities

  • Participate in clinical research through the Netcare’s Ethic committee.

Continuous education

  • Ensure that continuous education is in line with the HPCSA’s requirements.
  • Gain knowledge in current research publications in Radiation therapy.
  • Keep up to date with the latest treatment protocols and advances in technology.

SKILLS PROFILE

EDUCATION

Required

  • Registration with the HPCSA as a Therapy Radiographer.
  • A relevant higher diploma or degree in Therapeutic Radiography at NQF level 7.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • Clinical Radiation Therapy.

Preferred

  • Experience in the private healthcare sector.

KNOWLEDGE

Required

  • Computer literacy.
  • Sound knowledge of radiation principals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • In the event of any physical or psychological limitation that may impair the employee’s ability to perform the required job function, the employee must consult the employer for reasonable accommodation.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Professional flexibility in working hours while supporting daily business operations.
  • Will interact with internal and external customers through several different means.
  • Travel to support the functions of the role may be required.
