As Senior Tax Manager – North America, you will serve as the key tax advisor for US and Canadian operations, ensuring compliance, strengthening governance, supporting commercial decision-making, and helping shape the future of tax processes through automation and responsible AI adoption.

This role offers direct exposure to senior global leadership, including mentoring from the Global Head of Tax, while contributing to major initiatives such as ERP transformation, legal entity simplification, and tax technology modernization.

What Your Impact Is

In this role, you will

  • Lead North America's corporate tax compliance, tax accounting, and indirect tax activities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Finance, Legal, Commercial, and operational stakeholders.
  • Drive tax governance, process improvement, and risk management across the region.
  • Support strategic business initiatives, including acquisitions, restructurings, and ERP transformation programs.
  • Develop and mentor an Indirect Tax Analyst while building a high-performing tax function.
  • Advance automation, digital tools, and AI-enabled solutions that improve efficiency, controls, and reporting.
  • Help position tax as a proactive business partner that supports sustainable growth and operational excellence.

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of progressive tax experience with significant US federal and state corporate tax expertise.
  • Strong knowledge of US corporate income tax compliance and tax accounting, including ASC 740.
  • Working knowledge of IFRS tax reporting.
  • Experience with US sales and use tax and broader state and local tax matters, including property taxes, gross receipts taxes, transaction taxes, and business licenses.
  • Proven experience reviewing work, managing priorities, and developing team members.
  • Experience managing external advisors and engaging with tax authorities.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • CPA, MST, or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience with Canadian corporate tax and/or indirect tax matters.
  • Background within a multinational or professional services environment.
  • Exposure to mergers and acquisitions, restructuring, transfer pricing, cross-border tax matters, and contract review.
  • Experience supporting ERP implementation, finance transformation, or process redesign initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365, SAP, Oracle, or other major ERP platforms.
  • Advanced Excel and experience leveraging tax technology, data analytics, workflow, or reporting tools.
  • Interest in emerging technologies, automation, and responsible AI applications within tax functions.

Key Responsibilities

Corporate Tax Compliance & Tax Accounting

  • Lead US federal, state, and local corporate tax compliance activities and oversee Canadian tax compliance processes.
  • Prepare and review North American tax provisions under ASC 740 and IFRS.
  • Manage quarterly tax account reviews, reconciliations, estimates, deferred tax balances, and return-to-provision adjustments.
  • Develop annual tax budgets and cash tax forecasts.
  • Oversee statutory tax reporting requirements, including information filings where applicable.
  • Manage tax authority inquiries, examinations, notices, and payment matters.

Indirect Tax Leadership & Team Management

  • Oversee governance and compliance for sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts tax, business licensing, and related indirect tax obligations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Indirect Tax Analyst.
  • Review filings, reconciliations, audit support, journal entries, and tax reporting workpapers.
  • Provide technical direction on taxability determinations, filing positions, and audit strategies.
  • Manage responses to indirect tax audits and regulatory inquiries.
  • Support Canadian GST/HST and other indirect tax matters in collaboration with external advisors.

Business Partnering & Advisory

  • Review contracts, master service agreements, statements of work, and commercial arrangements to identify tax implications and risks.
  • Advise stakeholders on tax-efficient structures, risk mitigation, pricing considerations, and compliance requirements.
  • Assess cross-border tax exposures, including withholding tax, permanent establishment, payroll, and treaty considerations.
  • Build strong partnerships with Finance, Legal, Commercial, and operational teams.

Strategic Projects & Transformation

  • Support acquisitions, integrations, disposals, and corporate restructurings.
  • Contribute tax expertise to legal entity rationalization initiatives.
  • Partner with Global Tax and Finance Transformation teams on ERP replacement and process redesign projects.
  • Define tax requirements, support testing activities, and ensure tax considerations are embedded in future-state systems and controls.
  • Help drive tax technology modernization and automation initiatives.

Global Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with external tax advisors and service providers.
  • Collaborate closely with the Global Tax team on transfer pricing, governance, technical matters, and transformation initiatives.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for North American tax issues.
  • Communicate complex tax matters clearly and effectively to both tax and non-tax stakeholders.

Governance, Technology & Continuous Improvement

  • Strengthen tax controls, governance frameworks, and documentation standards.
  • Develop policies, procedures, filing calendars, and process guidance.
  • Standardize and automate recurring tax processes.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across the US and Canada.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through technology, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.
