As the Sr. Distribution PSM Manager, you’ll be the driving force behind our Process Safety Management program, developing, implementing, and communicating strategies that keep our operations safe and compliant. This role goes beyond paperwork—you’ll ensure accurate emergency documentation, champion proactive employee awareness, and maintain full compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Your leadership will create a culture of safety and readiness, protecting both people and processes while setting the standard for excellence in distribution safety.
WHAT YOU’LL DO

- PSM Strategy & Compliance - Create, support, and implement innovative strategies to strengthen and improve Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance across all applicable locations.
- Stay ahead of regulatory changes by determining the applicability of current and pending rules related to PSM and ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Collaboration & Oversight - Partner with plant personnel to manage all aspects of PSM, ensuring seamless execution and compliance.
- Serve as the primary coordinator and interface for third-party PSM auditors, guaranteeing smooth audits and accurate reporting.
- Process & Equipment Excellence - Develop, evaluate, and recommend process and equipment improvements to maximize safety and operational efficiency.
- Establish and enforce adherence to PSM auditing schedules, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) reviews, and Mechanical Integrity testing.
- Incident Response & Prevention - Lead root cause analysis and implement preventive/corrective actions following any upset condition or ammonia release. Ensure contractors working on ammonia systems are certified and properly trained for their tasks.
- Performance & Training - Develop and maintain PSM-related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track progress and drive accountability. Lead safety activities related to PSM and ammonia refrigeration, and train applicable personnel to build a culture of safety and compliance.
WHAT WE’RE SEEKING

- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Manufacturing, Engineering or related field and 8+ years of PSM management responsibilities in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, required.
- 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership, required.
- Previous Anhydrous Ammonia Refrigeration experience.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations with emphasis on PSM.
- Extensive knowledge of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) methodologies, e.g HAZOP, What If.
- The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and collaborate with cross-functional teams to reach joint decisions, identify and resolve problems.
- Effectively adapt to changing situations, unexpected issues and varied job demands.
- Must have the ability to complete required applicable forms in English, which requires the ability to read and write in English.
- Candidate is energized by travel up to 75%

- Primarily a Corporate working environment. When in the distribution center, the environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when in the plant production area.

The expected pay range for this position is $105,000 - $140,000 annually.

 Smithfield Foods provides pay ranges that reflect its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the company reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of hire. Individual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, location of the position, the candidate’s qualifications and experience, internal equity, external market pay for comparable positions and budget considerations.
