At KITCO Fiber Optics, we are a leading provider of fiber optic termination products and consulting services to the military and commercial communications industry. We specialize in the design and fabrication of fiber optic tools, tool kits, and custom cable assemblies. We also produce private label kits for a number of major connector manufacturers and sell our own broad line of products. Our field services division also performs on-site termination, splicing, troubleshooting and testing support, and our training division provides hands-on training and certification programs. We are recognized within the defense industry as fiber optic connectivity experts and, for over 20 years, have customized our products and services to meet strict military standards. Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled CAD Technician to join our Engineering team within the aerospace and defense sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, modifying, and managing technical drawings and models that support engineering, manufacturing, and cross-functional departments. This role requires eligibility to work on U.S. government contracts and a strong commitment to precision and collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and revise detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models for aerospace components and systems using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA)
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to interpret design concepts and translate them into accurate technical documentation
- Maintain drawing standards and ensure compliance with applicable military and industry specifications
- Support manufacturing, procurement, and quality assurance teams by providing accurate and timely design data
- Assist in the creation of bills of materials (BOMs), technical manuals, and other supporting documentation
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
- Manage and archive CAD files in accordance with company data management protocols
- Perform other tasks as requested to support business needs
Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, CAD Technology, Mechanical Design, or related field
- Minimum of 2 years of CAD experience in aerospace, defense, or a highly regulated industry
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA
- Strong understanding of engineering principles, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and manufacturing processes
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible to work on government contracts (ITAR compliance required)
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer workstation
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required for handling prototypes or technical materials
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate CAD equipment and standard office tools
- Visual acuity to read detailed drawings and inspect components
Work Environment
- Office and engineering lab setting within a secure facility
- May require occasional visits to manufacturing or testing areas
