About The Role

As a premier NPI, NGP1 is fast paced and setting new standards for Edison Works. The Program Mechanical Design team is a large organization with multiple sub-teams. This role is aligned to a sub-team spanning multiple commodities and design phases, including cost-out design, hardware delivery, test, certification/qualification, and technical publications.

The Design Engineer will directly support work across these areas, with opportunities to take on direct ownership as experience grows. This role operates in a highly cross-functional environment, enabling rapid learning and product maturation, and will help lead the charge on FLIGHT DECK adoption within Edison Works, applying lean principles to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This position reports to an engineering manager in Evendale, OH with the opportunity to integrate with various internal and external engineering disciplines.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned components and projects components for advanced military products using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
  • Leverage prior mechanical design experience and broaden knowledge of one's own technical discipline to meet product deliverables within schedule and budget constraints
  • Demonstrate systems-thinking mentality to understand how work of one's team integrates with others to achieve product requirements
  • Exhibit autonomy to make decisions within a defined requirements framework while resolving design challenges in situations which require technical knowledge and judgment
  • Review designs and consult with senior technical leaders for evaluation of work
  • This role requires sound interpersonal skills to develop strong internal and external customer relationships by serving as an interface point within GE Aerospace.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering from an accredited university
  • This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. Citizenship. Preference will be given to candidates who currently hold US Government Security Clearance.

Desired Characteristics

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in mechanical, aerospace or similar engineering from an accredited university
  • Possess an existing US Government Security Clearance
  • Highly motivated, passionate about the NGP mission, and with strong communication skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve technical challenges with sound reasoning, project planning, execution, and documentation
  • Experience with finite element analysis software such as ANSYS and 3D modelling software such as NX Unigraphics
  • Experience with structural component design and analysis
  • Desire to learn and execute
