Job Description

  • Provides leadership, support, and coordination of unit’s daily operations during designated shift.
  • Assists in directing, organizing, and prioritizing all shift activities to ensure patient care and staff needs are met.
  • Ensures appropriateness of admissions/cases to the unit/department and that appropriate staff skill mix exists to provide safe patient care.
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection process for new staff.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations regarding current staff performance. Conducts audits as needed regarding documentation, patient charges, and outcomes.
  • Resolves patient complaints and other issues that could negatively impact patient care.
  • Acts as a liaison to the multidisciplinary patient care team.
  • Monitors supply usage and costs at the unit level to ensure fiscal accountability.
  • Assists management with maintaining staff and department compliance with all regulatory and accreditation agencies.
  • Delegates tasks to RN and non-RN personnel in accordance with State Board of Nursing and hospital policy. Serves as a professional role model for all staff, demonstrating ethical, legal, and professional nursing practices.
  • Seeks out learning opportunities for continuing education and experiences that will maintain skills and competence in clinical practice or role performance.
