Responsibilities

NP or PA

  • Position: Full-Time.
  • Schedule: Day shift with night/weekend call. Four 10-hour shifts

Holiday Requirement: None

Call: Home call; 30-minute or less response time when called in for emergencies

Position Overview

This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of interventional cardiology while providing comprehensive care across the continuum—from referral and evaluation through procedural intervention, post-procedure management, and follow-up. The role offers significant opportunities for procedural expertise, complex PCI care coordination, education, quality improvement, leadership, and collaboration with a highly skilled cardiology team.

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Interventional Cardiology team in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. This full-time position provides comprehensive care to both inpatient and outpatient cardiology patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional procedures.

The APP will work collaboratively with interventional cardiologists, cardiology fellows, nursing staff, APPs and other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the peri-procedural experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform interventional cardiology procedures, including:
  • Coronary angiography and angioplasty
  • Right heart catheterizations
  • Cardiac biopsies
  • Complex structural heart procedures
  • Peripheral angiography
  • Obtain comprehensive histories and physical examinations and initiate appropriate orders.
  • Provide ongoing coordination and management of patient care throughout the hospital stay.
  • Manage peri-procedural complications and provide timely clinical intervention.
  • Occasionally cross-cover the peri-procedural care area following completion of training.
  • Provide verbal and written education to patients and their support systems regarding procedures, treatment plans, recovery, and follow-up care.
  • Participate in the education and development of students, new employees, APP students, cardiology fellows, and other learners.
  • Provide clinical training and skill development for cardiac catheterization staff, affiliated units, APP students, and referring physician offices.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives, departmental improvement projects, team-building activities, M&M meetings and departmental committees.
  • Provide occasional care coordination for complex PCI referrals, including referral intake, clinical record review, coordination with referring providers, patient communication, procedural planning, and facilitation of timely evaluation and treatment.

On-Call Responsibilities

Home-call rotation, divided between the IC APPs & fellows, that includes

  • Responding to STEMI alerts.
  • Performing emergency cardiac catheterization procedures.
  • Managing post-procedure complications.
  • Providing coverage for the outpatient answering service.
  • Reporting to the hospital within 30 minutes or less when called in for STEMI alerts or other emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Practice Provider credentials appropriate to the role (NP or PA).
  • Clinical experience in cardiology, surgery, acute care, or a comparable practice environment.
  • Experience in an organization of similar size and complexity with a demonstrated record of accomplishment.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and advanced technical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teaching abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued learning and professional development.
  • Ability to independently assess situations, identify problems, and develop effective solutions.
  • Strong ability to collaborate within a complex, multidisciplinary, team-based environment.

The ideal candidate is a clinically skilled and highly motivated APP who thrives in a fast-paced procedural environment. Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Require a Master's degree as a Nurse Practitioner, an active New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing, an active New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure in good standing and current national certification as an Nurse Practitioner.

Physician Assistant

Required completion of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program, an active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing and current national certification as a Physician Assistant by NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants)

NPs and PAs will demonstrate clinical competence, superior verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal effectiveness and customer relation skills, computer competence and must have an active desire to learn. The APP will participate in the education of learners (students and new employees), using clinical learning experiences, knowledge sharing and skill training.
