About The Role

Cargo, Ballast & Marine Systems Operations

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot marine systems related to the storage and export of stabilized crude oil, including ballast systems and Inert Gas (IG) systems;
  • Be responsible for Inert Gas (IG) system venting operations, including gas freeing and purging of the IG system, ensuring vent outlets and mast risers are operated in accordance with ISGOTT and manufacturer procedures;
  • Continuously monitor wind speed and direction during IG venting operations, assessing the extent of the hazardous gas dispersion zone and suspending or adjusting venting activities when wind conditions could direct hydrocarbon vapors toward occupied areas, the helideck, or ignition sources;
  • Prepare load and discharge plans for cargo and ballast, cargo calculations, cargo/slop/ballast tank entry, and cargo/slop/ballast tank condition monitoring;
  • Operate and monitor cargo offloading systems, mooring and positioning telemetry systems, and communication systems used during offloading operations with dynamically positioned shuttle tankers;
  • Prepare and assist the marine team with Crude Oil Washing (COW) operations, water washing, tank gas freeing, and preparation of cargo and ballast tanks for entry; assist with inspection of cargo and ballast tanks as per the Computerized Maintenance Management System;
  • Responsible for ensuring that the FPSO's intact stability and structural strength are at all times maintained within safe operating envelopes;
  • Operate tank gauging systems (radar level gauges) and perform custody transfer measurements/draft surveys in accordance with ISGOTT and ANP requirements;
  • Liaise with the Operations Control Room Operator (CRO) as required to ensure stable operations.

Environmental & Regulatory Compliance

  • Operate and monitor the Oil Discharge Monitoring Equipment (ODME) and other pollution-prevention systems during Slop discharge operations, ensuring compliance with MARPOL Annex I requirements and maintaining environmental discharge records;
  • Assist the Marine Superintendent in preparing for and supporting surveys and audits conducted by the Directorate of Ports and Coasts (DPC), Classification Society, and Flag State, ensuring that required documentation, certificates, and records are organized and readily available;
  • Support helideck inspections and audits (structural, firefighting equipment, and operational readiness) conducted by DPC, Classification Society, or per company/international standards (e.g., CAP 437), ensuring compliance findings are logged and communicated to the Marine Superintendent;
  • Prepare and submit all documentation required regarding cargo export, such as Cargo Quality and Quantity Origin

Safety, Emergency Response & SIMOPS

  • Identify and report marine equipment faults and breakdowns; use IFS to generate work orders if required;
  • Coordinate and monitor Simultaneous Operations (SIMOPS) involving cargo/ballast, crane, supply boat, and helicopter activities to prevent conflicting operations;
  • Liaise with the Marine Superintendent regarding planning of offloading operations, including but not limited to potential weather challenges and operational conflicts in terms of helicopter and supply boat operations;
  • Monitor weather in general, as well as report and announce when weather criteria defined in the heavy weather plan or operating procedure have been reached or breached, and suspend operations as appropriate;
  • Monitor all internal and external communications, as well as Closed Circuit TV (CCTV);
  • Liaise with the Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel on a daily basis as required;
  • Monitor vessel activity inside the 500m safety zone;
  • Monitor shipping traffic in the vicinity of the FPSO that may pose a threat to the FPSO;
  • Prioritize workload to ensure safety-critical backlog is kept to a minimum;
  • Act as a role model for safety, promoting a strong safety culture through active participation and leadership in safety meetings, briefings, toolbox talk and training sessions.

Reporting, Handover & Documentation

  • Complete the necessary daily reporting concerning marine aspects of the overall operation;
  • Maintain Central Control Room (CCR) operations shift log and conduct shift handover;
  • Provide clear and concise daily work logs of events during the shift and give a comprehensive handover to back-to-backs of all events and information relevant to time on duty, including updates on plant conditions, standing/daily instructions, and status of work permits within the assigned area. Handovers are regarded as critical to the safe operation of platform systems and equipment;
  • Liaise with the Laboratory Technician for proper analysis of exported crude.

Team, Vendor & Training Coordination

  • Liaise with other departments for coordination of maintenance activities;
  • Use the IFS Maintenance Management System to generate work orders and update records;
  • Carry out marine consumables stock control as required;
  • Use the Permit to Work system; prepare permits and adhere to Permit to Work requirements;
  • Ensure that vendors and contractors are managed safely and effectively;
  • Undertaking training, both on and offshore, relevant to the position;
  • Perform on-the-job training for newly started colleagues on marine systems and procedures; participate in emergency preparedness drills, safety meetings, and on-the-job training;

Requirements

  • MODU Code Ballast / Stability training and certification is mandatory.
  • Minimum of OOW Unlimited Class II/1 is desirable.
  • Eperience on FPSOs, Shuttle Tankers or Conventional Tankers.
  • Fluent Oral and Written English.
  • Solas, ISGOTT, ISM Code and MARPOL.
  • Offshore Experience in Brazil is desirable.
  • Previous work in a multinational environment is desirable.
