TITLE: Assistant Director of Sales

LOCATION: Cottonwood Corporate Center- Corporate Office

SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Sales supports the Director of Sales in driving group lodging, conference, incentive, association, corporate meeting, and event revenue for the resort. This leadership role combines strategic business development with hands-on sales execution and team support. The Assistant Director is responsible for developing new business opportunities, growing existing accounts, mentoring sales managers, and ensuring departmental sales objectives are achieved.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated hospitality sales professional with a strong understanding of the meetings and events industry, proven success selling large group conferences, and the ability to cultivate meaningful relationships with meeting planners, third-party intermediaries, and corporate decision makers.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to increase conference and group sales revenue.
  • Assist Sales Managers in identifying, soliciting, and securing new business opportunities.
  • Oversee and contribute to an active pipeline of qualified leads through prospecting, networking, trade shows, industry events, and client referrals.
  • Manage key accounts and build long-term relationships with meeting planners, corporations, associations, and third-party partners.
  • Conduct sales presentations, virtual meetings, site inspections, and resort tours.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements in accordance with resort policies and revenue objectives.
  • Collaborate with Revenue Management and Operations teams to maximize profitability and optimize business mix.
  • Assist in overseeing the day-to-day performance of the sales team.
  • Coach and mentor Sales Managers and Sales Coordinators to improve prospecting, conversion, and negotiation skills.
  • Support the Director of Sales with goal setting, forecasting, and performance tracking.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and results-oriented sales culture.
  • Represent the resort at industry conferences, trade shows, client events, and association functions.
  • Monitor industry trends, market conditions, competitor activity, and emerging business opportunities.
  • Maintain active participation in industry organizations such as MPI, PCMA, SITE, and other relevant professional groups.
  • Develop market intelligence and share insights to support team strategy and business planning.
  • Serve as a champion for the continuous improvement of the sales process by identifying and eliminating barriers that may impede conversion, including outdated collateral, inefficient workflows, inconsistent messaging, or technology gaps.
  • Ensure all sales materials, presentations, proposals, digital assets, and resort information remain accurate, compelling, and up to date to support a best-in-class customer experience and maximize conversion of qualified opportunities.

WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field preferred.
  • 5-7+ years of hospitality sales experience with demonstrated success in group and conference sales.
  • Previous resort, convention center, or destination hotel sales experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid Driver License w/ clean MVR (driving record).
  • Proficient computer skills, strong with Microsoft office (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and proven success with internet / search engines / lead database software for prospecting and developing new business.
  • Experience with CRM systems, preferably Amadeus/Salesforce.
  • Strong communication skills are important, both written and verbal.
  • Strong sense of the meetings & hospitality industry and a passion for working with people.
  • Good problem-solving skills, knowledge of contract negotiation and experience in cold calling, networking and building relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills, calendar management, budget and expenses management required. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment with being self-motivated and driven is necessary to be successful in this role.

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Normal weekday business hours with flexibility to work nights, weekends and holidays based on customer demand and travel needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be prepared to stay overnight, if necessary, on occasional times of road closures.
  • May experience unusual stress from high business volumes, deadlines, continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp, and perform repetitive motions.
  • General office environment with limited physical activity.
  • Work is routine in pleasant, comfortable surroundings. General office conditions prevail.
  • Work is subject to frequent interruptions making continuity and accuracy difficult, frequent exposure to noise.
  • Must be able to walk on slippery surfaces of snow and ice.
  • Must be able to walk over uneven, uphill/downhill areas.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
  • Must be able to walk through deep snow, occasionally.
