About The Role
The Assistant Transportation Supervisor supports daily transportation operations within the distribution center by helping coordinate driver activity, fleet readiness, regulatory compliance, and on-time product deliveries. This role assists the Transportation Supervisor with team member guidance, reporting, scheduling, safety communication, and operational follow-up to help ensure the transportation department runs safely, efficiently, and in alignment with O’Reilly standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist the Transportation Supervisor with daily coordination of transportation department activities, including driver communication, scheduling support, and operational follow-ups.
- Support the supervision of transportation team members by assisting with training, scheduling, performance reviews, and goal tracking.
- Help ensure drivers and fleet vehicles remain compliant with DOT, federal, state, and internal O’Reilly regulations.
- Monitor fleet readiness and support follow-up on required vehicle maintenance to ensure service schedules.
- Conduct and document driver training to ensure route drivers understand job expectations, safety requirements, and transportation procedures.
- Assist with monthly safety meetings and reinforce safe work methods, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with cross functional departments to coordinate special deliveries, pickups, or other related activities when required.
- Communicate driver staffing and fleet coverage needs to leadership in order to help maintain operations.
- Help identify and escalate compliance concerns, unsafe practices, or any operational issues in accordance with O’Reilly standards and procedures.
- Promote positive communication and strong teamwork with team members and leaders within the transportation department.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).
- Familiarity with hazardous materials by highway regulations, North American Standard Out of Service criteria, and electronic logging devices.
- Experience with supporting daily work coordination, communicating expectations, and following up on assigned tasks.
- Knowledge of company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, with the ability to apply them to daily work.
- Ability to adapt to new systems and programs that support fleet safety and transportation performance.
- Effective communication skills when working with team members and leaders across the distribution center.
Desired
- Experience with distribution center operations.
- Experience working with routing and delivery schedules.
- Experience with AS400 platforms.
- 1+ year of previous experience in fleet management.
- Proficiency in one or more additional languages.
