About The Role
This position is responsible for performing various cleaning tasks, moving equipment and furniture, and maintaining floor care to provide patients, visitors, and health sciences staff with a safe and clean environment. It involves maintaining standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and freedom from hazards and infection control issues.
Schedule: Monday -Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm with rotating weekends 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Job Responsibilities
- Perform basic tasks related to own area (e.g., various cleaning tasks, movement of equipment and furniture, and floor care maintenance), under direct supervision.
- Perform basic tasks related to the movement of biohazardous waste for proper waste disposal and regular trash movement and removal to designated waste receptacles.
- Assist in maintaining in good condition any personal protective equipment deemed appropriate for use through job hazard assessments.
- Assist in providing patients, visitors, and health sciences staff with a safe and clean environment.
- Provide support in maintaining standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and freedom from hazards and infections.
- Perform cleaning of Patient Care Spaces, Public Spaces, Clinical Spaces, Research Spaces, Laboratory Spaces, Meeting Spaces, and Office Spaces.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Consistently meet job expectations, adhere to policies, and deliver quality work while applying St. Jude values and principles. Managers evaluate employee performance throughout the year—specifically through the spring and fall Check‑In milestones and the Annual Performance Review. All employees are encouraged to actively participate in these performance management processes.
Minimum Education and/or Training
- High School Diploma/GED preferred.
Minimum Experience
- Experience in environmental services preferred.
- Understanding of environmental regulations, laws, and standards, preferred.
- Basic knowledge of biohazardous and/ or hazardous waste management, preferred.

- Ability to recognize potential hazards, follow safety rules, and take precautions to prevent incidents (e.g., accidents, injuries, contamination).
- Follows safety procedures with occasional guidance. Identifies common risks and takes basic precautions. Reports safety concerns when noticed.

- Contributes to team efforts and communicates basic ideas. Listens to others and can give/ receive feedback. Demonstrates independence in resolving routine and non-routine queries.
- Skills in safely collecting, separating, and disposing of regular and hazardous waste to maintain cleanliness and prevent health risks.
- Understands standard waste disposal procedures. Can handle basic biohazard materials in accordance with protocols. Knows how to use personal protective equipment correctly and follows hygiene best practices.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $19.00 - $27.50 per hour for the role of Environmental Services Attendant.
