As an intermediate solicitor (2-4 years’ experience) in Corporate Legal you will be part of a specialist legal team within Inland Revenue that advises on corporate law, including information law, public law, commercial, property and employment issues. We do not deal with tax technical matters.

Your role will be working predominantly in our information law practice but there will be scope to engage in other areas, depending on your experience and preference. It will involve advising key stakeholders, including senior leaders and our Policy, Ministerial Services and Information Sharing teams.

To be successful in this position, you will need an understanding of information law and a proven ability to accurately assess legal risks and provide sensible solutions.

In this varied role you will ideally have

  • The ability to assess legal risks and provide practical and legally sound solutions and advice.
  • Experience in statutory interpretation and legal drafting.
  • An interest in drafting interagency information sharing agreements, including to a secondary legislation level. This includes understanding organisational needs and impacts involved.
  • A good understanding of the law relating to the Official Information Act and Privacy Act.
  • A willingness to engage in advising on a broad range of legal matters across Corporate Legal’s practice areas.
  • Great relationship management skills for interacting with our internal clients, lawyers in other public service agencies, and external counsel.
  • A current New Zealand practising certificate.

The salary range for the Corporate Solicitor Level 1 role is $101,424 - $143,187. The salary offered will be based on skills and experience assessed during the interview stage.
