About the Opportunity

The Wellbeing Navigator Peer is a new role within the recently established Bushfire Surge Response Team, delivering Mental Health and Wellbeing Local services across Mitchell and Murrindindi.

The role provides peer support, service navigation and recovery planning for people experiencing mental health challenges, psychological distress or substance use concerns. It has a special focus on working with multicultural communities to ensure support is culturally safe, respectful and responsive to each person’s needs.

Working alongside participants and other members of the team, the role builds relationships based on shared understanding and trust. It supports people in our community to recognise their strengths, make their own choices and shape their own recovery.

Key elements of the role include

Providing one-to-one peer support and helping people find the right services
Supporting recovery and wellbeing planning based on each person’s strengths and goals
Facilitating peer-led groups and activities that build community connection
Helping people make informed choices and engage with clinical and community supports

About You

You have personal lived experience with mental health challenges, psychological distress and/or substance use, and you’ve navigated your own recovery journey. Through this experience, along with formal study or training, you’ve gained valuable insight that allows you to support others with empathy and understanding.

You share your story in a safe, respectful and empowering way; helping others to feel seen, heard and understood. You instil hope and support people in building connections and reinforce the strengths they already bring to their own recovery journey.

About the Service

Mental Health and Wellbeing Locals provide free, welcoming and easy-to-access support for people experiencing mental health challenges, psychological distress or concerns related to substance use or addiction.

As part of this service, the Mitchell and Murrindindi Surge Response Team provides flexible, compassionate support that responds to the needs of local communities. The team works alongside individuals, families and local services to help people feel heard, stay connected and access the support that is right for them.

Grounded in recovery, inclusion and hope, the team focuses on people’s strengths, builds meaningful connections and supports them to work towards the goals that matter most.
