Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
We are looking for a motivated Field Worker - Pest Management to join our team in Taranaki on a full-time, fixed-term basis. In this hands-on role, you'll help deliver an important environmental programme focused on protecting native forests and biodiversity as part of the Mt Messenger Alliance project. The position is predominantly field-based , with approximately 80% of your time spent working outdoors in remote and rugged terrain.
Key responsibilities include
- Installing, maintaining and servicing pest traps and bait stations across the pest management area.
- Monitoring pest activity using tracking tunnels, wax tags and cameras
- Deploying and monitoring pest control operations and associated infrastructure.
- Collecting, managing and accurately recording field and monitoring data.
- Maintaining equipment, vehicles, field huts and tracks.
- Working safely and proactively within a collaborative team environment
- Contributing ideas and improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is passionate about conservation, and wants to make a positive impact on New Zealand's natural environment. The role is offered as a 12-month fixed-term position with the potential for extension and may occasionally require overnight stays in the field.

To be successful in this role, you will have
- A high level of physical fitness and a willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Confidence working in remote and rugged terrain.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A full class 1 Driver’s License
- A willingness to learn new technology, equipment and field-based techniques
- A positive attitude, initiative and strong work ethic.
- A genuine interest in conservation, biodiversity and protecting New Zealand's natural environment.
