Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

We are looking for a motivated Field Worker - Pest Management to join our team in Taranaki on a full-time, fixed-term basis. In this hands-on role, you'll help deliver an important environmental programme focused on protecting native forests and biodiversity as part of the Mt Messenger Alliance project. The position is predominantly field-based , with approximately 80% of your time spent working outdoors in remote and rugged terrain.

Key responsibilities include

Installing, maintaining and servicing pest traps and bait stations across the pest management area.
Monitoring pest activity using tracking tunnels, wax tags and cameras
Deploying and monitoring pest control operations and associated infrastructure.
Collecting, managing and accurately recording field and monitoring data.
Maintaining equipment, vehicles, field huts and tracks.
Working safely and proactively within a collaborative team environment
Contributing ideas and improvements to enhance operational efficiency.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, is passionate about conservation, and wants to make a positive impact on New Zealand's natural environment. The role is offered as a 12-month fixed-term position with the potential for extension and may occasionally require overnight stays in the field.

To be successful in this role, you will have

A high level of physical fitness and a willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Confidence working in remote and rugged terrain.
The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
A full class 1 Driver’s License
A willingness to learn new technology, equipment and field-based techniques
A positive attitude, initiative and strong work ethic.
A genuine interest in conservation, biodiversity and protecting New Zealand's natural environment.
