About The Role

The Strategic Buyer is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for assigned direct material categories, with primary responsibility for Metal Fabrication commodities and other strategic component categories. The role ensures cost competitiveness, quality, supply continuity, supplier performance, and risk mitigation while driving procurement excellence across the supply base. Working closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and key suppliers, this position supports new product introductions, localization initiatives, cost reduction programs, and overall business objectives through strategic sourcing and category management leadership.

Strategic Sourcing

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for metal fabrication categories, including sheet metal, machined components, welded assemblies, stamped parts, and fabricated structures.
  • Analyze market trends, commodity risks, supplier capabilities, and cost drivers to identify sourcing opportunities.
  • Lead supplier selection processes, RFQs, negotiations, and contract management activities.
  • Drive cost reduction initiatives through value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE), supplier development, and productivity programs.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects and supplier localization initiatives.

Supplier Management

  • Identify, evaluate, qualify, and develop strategic suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance using KPIs related to quality, delivery, cost, responsiveness, and sustainability.
  • Conduct supplier business reviews and implement corrective action plans where needed.

Cost Management

  • Lead annual cost reduction and productivity projects.
  • Perform detailed cost analysis and benchmarking of fabricated components and assemblies.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and commercial agreements.

Supply Chain Management

  • Identify supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor market conditions, raw material trends, and geopolitical factors affecting supply.
  • Develop contingency plans for critical suppliers and components.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Maintain procurement metrics and dashboards.
  • Prepare sourcing recommendations and management presentations.
  • Utilize ERP and procurement tools to manage supplier information, contracts, and purchasing data.
