Senior Corporate Counsel (Singapore)
Sony Interactive Entertainment Singapore (“SIE”) has a unique opportunity to provide legal support for a number of SIE’s core business functions across APAC. This Senior Corporate Counsel position will have specific responsibility for a broad range of legal matters across multiple markets in the APAC region and will have leadership responsibilities within the APAC team. In this role, you will have a broad scope of responsibility supporting channel sales, digital distribution and business operations, handling consumer law issues and providing regulatory advice for the PlayStation console business and digital segments such as PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus subscription. You will work closely with subject matter experts within the global legal department such as marketing, D2C, public policy, intellectual property, privacy, and corporate governance. You will also serve as a functional legal expert who possesses subject matter expertise in two or more legal and regulatory areas relevant to the PlayStation business in APAC.
What you'll be doing
Provide transactional support and general legal counseling to a broad range of SIE business functions in APAC, including:
Being a strategic thought partner to business, operational and functional support teams;
Advising and supporting, or partnering with other legal team members to advise and support business teams to manage risk and drive growth in the APAC region;
Providing general legal advice on corporate and commercial activities across multiple countries, including day-to-day business operations, sales, distribution, marketing, advertising, consumer matters, vendor engagement and regulatory matters, among others;
Reviewing, drafting and negotiating business agreements and legal documents in support of all lines of business, including procurement, new business initiatives and program rollouts;
Managing and responding to inquiries or investigations by regulators or law enforcement agencies, working closely with internal teams and outside counsel where required;
Reporting to and working closely with the Senior Director, Legal on direction and strategy as part of the legal department’s regional support for APAC
Providing legal advice across a variety of topics to global legal teams seeking regional legal inputs for global product launches, marketing materials, blogs, packaging, and other initiatives launched on PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus;
Advising on policy or regulatory matters;
Leading and managing members of the APAC legal team;
Managing outside counsel and a legal budget; and
Leading global and regional projects from time to time.
What we're looking for
Law degree with a license to practice law in Singapore, England or another common law jurisdiction;
Minimum 12 years’ experience practicing law either in an in-house corporate legal department, top-tier law firm or a combination of both;
Familiarity with consumer, product and advertising laws in one or more APAC countries;
Experience providing legal support to sales and marketing organisations in APAC, ideally in the consumer electronics sales (physical and e-sales) and hardware distribution sector;
A motivated, reliable, disciplined, self-starter who thinks and works proactively and cross-functionally and is effective at working and solving problems collaboratively with other stakeholders;
Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team, including people management responsibilities;
A keen eye for detail – precision, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential;
Excellent drafting and negotiation skills in at least English;
Excellent communicator possessing excellent interpersonal skills;
Ability to manage and support projects across multiple geographies and subject matters;
Ability to think and negotiate, creatively and effectively, balancing legal constraints with business goals and objectives; and
Excellent decision-making skills and ability to identify and prioritize the highest impact of initiatives and drive them to pragmatic resolution.
Desired Qualities and Experience
Combination of in-house and law firm practice experience in the APAC office of a top law firm.
Ability to speak multiple languages relevant to the APAC region.
Experience working closely with senior business management.
Experience and comfort working in a highly matrixed organization.
Experience working in a highly engaged team distributed across multiple time zones and cultures.
